Drug & supplement interaction

Mindfulness + Avapritinib

Avapritinib brand name: Ayvakit.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Mindfulness and Avapritinib in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Mindfulness and Avapritinib

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Avapritinib and Mindfulness in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — research on Mindfulness alongside specific medications may be limited.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Mindfulness at all — not against Avapritinib, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

Mindfulness is a practice rather than something you take. Ask your care team whether the type and intensity you plan to practice are appropriate for your health and treatment. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Mindfulness and Avapritinib May Share Several of the Same Side Effects

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so practicing Mindfulness while taking the medicine can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do. One of them is worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

“Some studies report rare cases of anger, worsening anxiety, and thoughts of self-harm in patients, but these effects could have been caused by the underlying ailment rather than practicing mindfulness.”

Effects for Avapritinib come from the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of its FDA label; effects for Mindfulness come from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record, quoted above. Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 12,039 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Avapritinib that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Wording is matched across sources by our own clinical vocabulary, so treat this as a prompt to pay attention, not a diagnosis.

About Mindfulness

What is Mindfulness?

  • Stress reduction
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Chronic pain
  • Sleep problems
  • Improving focus and emotional well-being

Mindfulness is a mind-body practice—not a pill or herb—that involves paying attention to the present moment without judgment. Research suggests it can modestly help with stress, anxiety, depression, and chronic pain for many people, and it is generally very safe. It is best used alongside, not in place of, care from your doctor or pharmacist.

Not applicable (mind-body practice) · Guided meditation, breathing exercises, body scans, mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) programs, apps, classes

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Mindfulness is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Mindfulness record says about it on its own.

Mindfulness: dosing

There is no standardized "dose" for mindfulness. Many structured programs, such as MBSR, run for about eight weeks with daily home practice, but you do not need a formal program to benefit.A common starting point is a few minutes of practice per day, gradually building up as it feels comfortable. Even short, regular sessions can help.

About Avapritinib

What Is Avapritinib Used For?

Brand name: Ayvakit

Ayvakit (avapritinib) is approved to treat adults with unresectable (cannot be surgically removed) or metastatic (spread to other parts of the body) gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) that have a specific genetic mutation called a PDGFRA exon 18 mutation, including the D842V variant. Patients must be tested for this mutation before starting treatment.

Ayvakit is also approved to treat advanced systemic mastocytosis (AdvSM) — a serious condition where abnormal mast cells build up in organs — including aggressive systemic mastocytosis, systemic mastocytosis with an associated blood cancer, and mast cell leukemia. Additionally, Ayvakit treats indolent systemic mastocytosis (ISM), a less severe form of the disease. It is not recommended for either form of mastocytosis if platelet counts are too low (below 50 × 10⁹/L).
