Pareira and Risedronate

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Risedronate and Pareira in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Pareira at all — not against Risedronate, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Risedronate page

“Risedronate (Actonel DR) is an osteoporosis medicine with an Achilles heel, poor absorption. Only a small fraction of each dose ever reaches the bone, and the 23 supplements on this page deserve genuine wariness because nearly all of them attack that weak point by binding or blunting the drug in the gut.”

About Pareira

What is Pareira?

  • Urinary tract complaints
  • Bladder irritation and inflammation
  • Kidney stones
  • Fluid retention (diuretic use)
  • Digestive upset

Pareira is a traditional plant remedy, mainly from the South American vine Chondrodendron tomentosum, that has long been used for urinary and bladder complaints. Modern scientific evidence in humans is very limited, and some related plants in this group contain powerful muscle-relaxing compounds, so it should be used cautiously and only under professional guidance.

Chondrodendron tomentosum · Menispermaceae · Root and woody stem (bark) · Dried root, tincture, fluid extract, homeopathic preparations

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Pareira is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Pareira record says about it on its own.

Pareira: dosing

There is no established standardized dose for pareira, and products vary widely in strength and form. Because of this, it is not possible to recommend a specific safe and effective amount. If you choose to use a pareira product, follow the directions on the label and do not exceed the recommended amount.
