Plum and Avatrombopag Maleate

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Avatrombopag Maleate and Plum in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Avatrombopag Maleate

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Avatrombopag Maleate is filed under 2 classifications — p-glycoprotein substrates, oral drugs. Plum has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs (moderate) — and none of Avatrombopag Maleate’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What Plum Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Avatrombopag Maleate. It is the side-effect record for Plum on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Plum, this list is the first place to look. 2 entries are worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • A bowel blockage Worth acting on Additional detail

“Orally, plum has been reported to cause gastrointestinal issues, including flatulence and diarrhea.

In one case report, small bowel obstruction with impaction in the terminal ileum occurred in a 10-month old infant who consumed a dried plum. This was likely due to the infant being unable to properly chew the plum.

Consumption of plum pits has also caused serious gastrointestinal adverse effects.”

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Plum — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. How to take them

Some Avatrombopag Maleate Products Have a Food Rule — Plum Should Not Break It

At least one FDA label for a product containing Avatrombopag Maleate says to take it with food. If you take Plum on an empty stomach out of habit, keep them separate — and take Avatrombopag Maleate with a meal where the label says to.

This may not be true of your version. Food instructions belong to the product, not the ingredient: two Avatrombopag Maleate products can carry different directions, and extended-release forms often differ from immediate-release ones. The label we read is quoted below — check the directions on your own box or bottle, or ask your pharmacist, for how to take the exact product you were given.

Administer DOPTELET tablets and DOPTELET SPRINKLE with food.

From the Dosage and Administration section of the FDA label we read for Avatrombopag Maleate — where that label names a specific product, the instruction is that product's. See the Avatrombopag Maleate drug page ›

A food rule is not an interaction — it is about how much of the medicine you absorb. The directions that came with your own product, and your pharmacist, outrank anything on this page.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Avatrombopag Maleate page

“Avatrombopag maleate (Doptelet) exists to raise a low platelet count, so anything that drags its blood level down invites the bleeding risk it was prescribed to prevent. I would handle this list of 54 supplements with real care, and the two rated major come first.”

About Plum

What is Plum?

  • Constipation
  • Digestive health
  • Bone health support
  • Antioxidant source
  • General nutrition

Plums and their dried form (prunes) are common, nutritious foods that are best known for helping relieve constipation thanks to their fiber and sorbitol content. They are generally safe as food, but eating large amounts can cause gas, bloating, or loose stools. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements, especially if you have a medical condition.

Prunus domestica · Rosaceae · Fruit (fresh and dried, also called prunes); juice · Fresh fruit, dried plums (prunes), juice, powder, capsules

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Plum is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Plum record says about it on its own.

Plum: dosing

There is no official standardized dose for plum. As a food, people often eat a small serving of dried plums or drink a small glass of plum juice to help with constipation, then adjust based on how their body responds. For supplements, powders, or capsules, follow the directions on the product label, since strength varies between products.
