What Is Odevixibat Used For?

Brand name: Bylvay

Bylvay (odevixibat) capsules are used to treat pruritus (intense, chronic itching caused by bile buildup in the body) in patients with two rare liver conditions. For progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis (PFIC), Bylvay is approved for patients 3 months of age and older. For Alagille syndrome (ALGS), Bylvay is approved for patients 12 months of age and older.

There is an important limitation: Bylvay is not recommended for a specific subgroup of PFIC type 2 patients who have certain genetic variants that result in a non-functional or completely absent bile salt export pump (BSEP) protein. A prescriber can determine whether this applies to your child.
