What Is Chloroprocaine Used For?
Brand names: Nesacaine, Nescaine-MPF
Chloroprocaine injection is used to produce local anesthesia — numbing — for a range of medical and surgical procedures. The specific uses depend on the product and concentration.
Nesacaine 1% and 2% (multidose vials with preservative) are approved for infiltration (numbing tissue directly) and peripheral nerve block only — not for epidural use. Nesacaine-MPF 2% and 3% (preservative-free, single-dose vials) are approved for infiltration, peripheral nerve block, and central nerve block, including lumbar and caudal epidural anesthesia. Chloroprocaine hydrochloride injection 2% and 3% (single-dose, preservative-free vials) are similarly approved for infiltration, peripheral and central nerve block, including lumbar and caudal epidural blocks. Iheezo, the ophthalmic gel, is used to numb the surface of the eye before procedures on or near the eye.
