Drug & supplement interaction

Yucca + Buspirone

Buspirone brand name: BuSpar.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Yucca and Buspirone in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Yucca and Buspirone

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Buspirone and Yucca in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Yucca at all — not against Buspirone, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Yucca safety at a glance

Yucca overall Use caution Generally considered low-risk in food amounts, but supplement safety is not well studied.
Pregnancy Avoid Not enough safety information is available, so it is best avoided.
Breastfeeding Avoid Safety while breastfeeding is unknown, so avoid use.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Yucca and Buspirone May Share Several of the Same Side Effects

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so taking both can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do. One of them is worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Buspirone page

“I counsel genuine caution when supplements meet buspirone (BuSpar), the anxiety medication, because four of its 155 documented interactions are rated major. About Yucca

What is Yucca?

  • Joint pain and arthritis
  • Digestive health
  • High cholesterol
  • Inflammation
  • High blood pressure

Yucca is a desert plant traditionally used for joint pain, arthritis, and digestion, and it contains compounds called saponins thought to have anti-inflammatory effects. Human evidence for these uses is very limited, so it should not replace proven treatments. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before trying it, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or take other medicines.

Yucca schidigera · Asparagaceae · Root, stem (trunk), and leaves · Capsules, tablets, powder, liquid extract, and tea

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Yucca is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Yucca record says about it on its own.

Yucca: dosing

There is no well-established standard dose for yucca supplements. Doses vary widely between products, and there is not enough research to recommend a specific amount. If you choose to try yucca, follow the directions on the product label and do not exceed them. A pharmacist or doctor can help you decide whether it is appropriate for you and review it against your other medications and health conditions.

About Buspirone

What Is Buspirone Used For?

Brand name: BuSpar

Buspirone tablets and capsules are used to manage anxiety disorders or to relieve anxiety symptoms in the short term. Its effectiveness has been shown in clinical trials focused on Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) — a condition marked by persistent, hard-to-control worry along with physical symptoms like muscle tension, restlessness, difficulty concentrating, and sleep problems.

Buspirone has also been shown to relieve anxiety in people who have mild depressive symptoms alongside their anxiety. Everyday stress and tension, on their own, generally do not require treatment with a medicine like buspirone.
