Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product has one active ingredient: 7-oxo-DHEA acetate, a modified form of a naturally occurring hormone precursor. The tablet also contains microcrystalline cellulose, stearic acid, and magnesium stearate as inactive ingredients — these help hold the tablet together and have no active role.

Does it work?

Not established
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see 7-keto-dhea's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Support healthy weight and metabolism.
  • We looked for evidence on: Obesity, Weight management, Body composition, Fat loss.
  • The closest evidence on file: 7-keto-dhea is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Obesity (Natural Medicines).

The evidence for 7-oxo-DHEA is not yet established. Studies haven't produced reliable proof that it works for obesity, depression, PTSD, Raynaud syndrome, or aging — the conditions the research has looked at so far.

That doesn't mean it's ineffective, just that the science isn't settled yet.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Short-term use appears generally tolerated in the small studies done, but long-term safety hasn't been well studied, so we don't know what happens with months or years of use. Side effects in trials have been mild and rare: a small number of participants reported nausea or dizziness, and one case report described lower blood cell counts after a week of use — though the real-world significance of that isn't clear.

Because 7-oxo-DHEA is a hormone-related supplement, the safety data advises against it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Formula

DHEA Metabolite

7-Keto is a naturally occurring metabolite of DHEA, an abundant hormone in human blood. Human clinical trials have shown that 7-Keto increases metabolic rate and therefore, 7-Keto can help with maintenance of healthy weight when taken in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise plan. As shown in preclinical research, 7-Keto is a potent inducer of thermogenic enzymes. 7-Keto is not converted to estrogens or androgens, a point of concern for many people.

7-Keto 100 mg by Source Naturals: Common Questions

Does 7-Keto 100 mg by Source Naturals interact with any medications?
We do not currently list a known interaction for the mapped ingredients in 7-Keto 100 mg. This does not guarantee none exist, so confirm with your pharmacist.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
7-Keto 100 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this while pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. The safety data advises against 7-oxo-DHEA during pregnancy and breastfeeding because there isn't enough reliable safety information and it's a hormone-related supplement. Talk to your doctor before taking anything in this category if you're pregnant or nursing.
Does 7-oxo-DHEA actually help with weight loss?
The evidence isn't established yet. Studies have looked at it for obesity, but they haven't produced reliable proof it works. That doesn't mean it won't help you — just that science hasn't confirmed it one way or the other.
What are the side effects?
In studies, side effects were rare. A small number of people reported nausea or dizziness. One person taking a lower dose reported a drop in blood cell counts, though we don't know if that would happen to others. Long-term side effects aren't well studied.
Is this safe to take long-term?
Short-term use appears tolerated, but long-term safety hasn't been well established in research. We don't have solid data on what happens with months or years of use, so talk to your pharmacist if you're thinking of taking it regularly.
What is 7-oxo-DHEA?
It's a modified form of a naturally occurring hormone precursor your body makes. Unlike DHEA itself, 7-oxo-DHEA is thought to have some different effects, though the evidence for what those are is still weak.
