AbsorbAid Platinum Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking AbsorbAid Platinum against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
AbsorbAid Platinum contains 14 active ingredients designed to support digestion. You're getting multiple digestive enzymes—amylase (breaks down carbohydrates), bromelain (from pineapple), protease and acid protease (break down proteins), lipase (breaks down fats), lactase (breaks down milk sugar), cellulase, peptidase, invertase, alpha-galactosidase, and hemicellulase—each targeting different food components.
You're also getting two live-organism probiotics: L. acidophilus and B. bifidum, which support healthy gut bacteria. The inactive ingredients are a vegetarian capsule, cellulose, and L-leucine.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence for most ingredients in this product is limited. Bromelain, the pineapple enzyme, shows insufficient evidence for hay fever, burns, cancer, nerve damage from chemotherapy, poor circulation in the legs, and blood sugar control.
The probiotics have stronger backing: L. acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome, H. pylori infection, antibiotic-related diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis, while B. bifidum is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome and respiratory infections. Lactase is effective for lactose intolerance.
For the other enzymes and some probiotic uses, we don't have effectiveness ratings on file.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Overall, the individual ingredients are generally well tolerated short-term, though long-term safety data for bromelain is limited. You may experience digestive side effects like diarrhea, gas, or stomach upset—these are the most commonly reported effects.
Rarely, allergic reactions can occur, especially in people sensitive to bromelain or other enzyme preparations; symptoms can include hives, itching, difficulty swallowing, or asthma. The probiotics are safe for most healthy adults and children, though they may cause bloating and flatulence.
One concern is that the live organisms in L. acidophilus and B. bifidum can theoretically cause serious infections in people with severely weakened immune systems, but this is rare. For pregnancy: the data advises against bromelain, but lactase is likely safe.
For the other enzymes and probiotics, there isn't enough data to know either way—talk with your doctor before use. For breastfeeding: safety data is limited across most ingredients.
Bromelain should be avoided, and the probiotics should only be used with medical advice. Check with your healthcare provider about this product before using it while pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your medications before starting this product if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs like warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel—bromelain may increase bleeding risk. If you take antibiotic drugs, separate them from this product by a few hours, since antibiotics may kill the live probiotics and reduce their benefit.
Let your pharmacist know about any tetracycline antibiotics you're on, since bromelain may theoretically raise their levels.

AbsorbAid Platinum by Nature's Sources Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
AbsorbAid Platinum by Nature's Sources contains multiple digestive enzymes and probiotics, and it does interact with certain medications.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel). Bromelain, one of the active enzymes, may have antiplatelet effects and can increase bleeding risk when combined with these medications.
There's also one case report of minor bruising in a patient taking bromelain with naproxen.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The probiotics in this product—L. acidophilus and B. bifidum—interact with antibiotic drugs. Since these probiotics contain live organisms, antibiotics taken at the same time may kill them and reduce their effectiveness.
You'll want to space these apart by a few hours.
Bromelain may also theoretically increase levels of tetracycline antibiotics, though a study in healthy adults found no significant difference in blood levels. We couldn't check several ingredients in this formula—Amylase, Cellulase, Peptidase, Invertase, Alpha-Galactosidase, Hemicellulase, and Amyloglucosidase—because we hold no interaction data for them.
Altogether, these interactions span 306 individual medications. Before you start this product, use the medication checker below to verify your exact prescriptions.

For each ingredient in AbsorbAid Platinum with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
L. acidophilus
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
B. bifidum
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium. bifidum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. bifidum.
Since B. bifidum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. bifidum preparations by at least 2 hours.
Bromelain
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Bromelain may have antiplatelet effects and may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
There is one case report of a patient experiencing minor bruising while taking bromelain with naproxen. Bromelain is thought to have antiplatelet activity. Whether this interaction is of concern with topical bromelain is unclear. Interference with coagulation of burn wounds has been reported in a patient receiving bromelain-based enzymatic debridement. However, observational research has found that topical bromelain debridement is not associated with increases or decreases in laboratory markers of coagulation when compared with surgical debridement.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, bromelain might increase levels of tetracycline antibiotics.
Laboratory research suggests that bromelain might increase the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics. However, a study in healthy adults reported no difference in tetracycline plasma levels when a 500 mg dose was taken with or without bromelain 80 mg.
