Sweet Wormwood shows possibly effective evidence for allergic rhinitis (hay fever). For nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, malaria, and osteoarthritis, the evidence in our data is insufficient to rate how well it works — we simply don't have enough reliable research to make a claim either way.
How safe is it?

When taken by mouth, Sweet Wormwood is generally well tolerated, though nausea and vomiting are the most common side effects some people report. Rarely, liver damage (hepatotoxicity) has occurred; one documented case involved a patient who developed hepatitis symptoms after taking a high dose of artemisinin (a compound in Sweet Annie) for 10 days and recovered after stopping.
A mild allergic reaction with rash and cough has been reported once. The safety data advises against using this supplement during pregnancy because of possible harm to the developing baby, and there isn't enough safety information to use it while breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist about that decision.
Generally, it's used short-term, and quality and dose vary widely, so it shouldn't replace proven treatments.

In vitro research shows that the Sweet Annie constituent artemisinin induces CYP2B6, possibly increasing CYP2B6 activity by 1.6-fold. Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Sweet Annie may alter plasma levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that the Sweet Annie constituent artemisinin induces CYP3A4, possibly increasing CYP3A4 activity by 1.9-fold. However, Sweet Annie extract seems to inhibit the activity of CYP3A4 in vitro, suggesting that other constituents of Sweet Annie play a role in its effects on the overall activity of this enzyme. Hepatotoxic Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use might have additive adverse hepatotoxic effects.
There is some concern that Sweet Annie can adversely affect the liver.
