Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 0 of its 1 active ingredient.

This product is pure ashitaba powder — a single active ingredient. Ashitaba is a leafy vegetable used traditionally in East Asian medicine.

There are no inactive fillers or other ingredients listed.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Ashitaba product and its label doesn't state a use — see Ashitaba's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The effectiveness data on file for ashitaba relates to alcohol-related liver disease, but the evidence is rated insufficient to draw a reliable conclusion. We don't hold strength-of-evidence ratings for other potential uses.

If you're considering ashitaba for a specific reason, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist about what evidence exists for that particular goal.

How safe is it?

Some data gaps
Safety Information · database check
Some gaps

Safety data exists for these ingredients, but with some important gaps.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 0 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Ashitaba is likely safe when eaten as a food, but safety data on concentrated supplements like this powder hasn't been thoroughly studied. The safety information on file advises against concentrated ashitaba supplements during pregnancy and while breastfeeding due to insufficient data.

If you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or nursing, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Ashitaba.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • For scale: 186 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take any medications processed by the CYP1A2 enzyme — including certain heart-rhythm drugs, blood pressure medications, and cancer treatments — check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product. Ashitaba may slow how your body clears these drugs and raise their levels.

No interactions are documented for the other ingredient categories we could check.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and some safety-information gaps remain.

Ashitaba powder might interest someone drawn to traditional plant remedies, but the concentrated supplement form hasn't been well studied for safety. The main caution is a potential interaction with medications metabolized by CYP1A2 — a large group that includes heart drugs, blood pressure medications, and others.

Before you start, check your exact prescriptions with your doctor or pharmacist to make sure this product won't affect how they work.

Formula

Ashitaba (Angelica keiskei koidzumi) is a world class superfood. Ashitaba is a unique celery-like vegetable indigenous to the Island of Hachijo in southern Japan, where it is consumed as a superfood. The islanders call it the "Longevity Vegetable." These Okinawan people are notoriously long-lived. Ashitaba is believed to be powerfully regenerative and is used to maintain health, and in particular to support mental well-being over a lifetime.Ashitaba may be consumed daily for life. Ashitaba is one of the few plants in the world that stimulates the protein known as Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) in humans. NGF helps neurons maintain connection with the brain. Italian scientists have demonstrated that NGF levels are elevated in the circulating blood of young adults who are in the throes of romantic love.

Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates

In vitro research shows that ashitaba extract inhibits cytochrome P450 (CYP) 1A2. Theoretically, concomitant use of ashitaba with CYP1A2 substrates might decrease the clearance of these substrates and increase the risk for adverse effects. However, this interaction has yet to be reported in humans. Until more is known, use with caution.
