HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Baby & Me 2 Prenatal DHA & Choline by MegaFood
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Baby & Me 2 has two active ingredients: Choline and Algal Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA). Choline is a nutrient that supports brain and liver health, and DHA is an omega-3 fatty acid important for fetal brain development and vision.
The capsule also contains several inactive ingredients — medium-chain triglycerides, microcrystalline cellulose, silicon dioxide, sunflower oil, tocopherols, rosemary extract, and mono- and diglycerides — which serve as binders, carriers, and preservatives.
Does it work?
Not established
The product contains choline, for which our data shows insufficient evidence to rate its effectiveness for age-related cognitive decline, Alzheimer disease, allergic rhinitis, bronchitis, or TPN-associated fatty liver. Choline is rated possibly ineffective for athletic performance.
We hold no effectiveness data for Algal Docosahexaenoic Acid in our system, so we cannot speak to how well the DHA component works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Choline is generally well tolerated in food amounts and in appropriate doses. High doses — above 3.5 grams daily — can cause side effects including fishy body odor, and at very high doses (9 grams or more daily), diarrhea, nausea, salivation, sweating, and vomiting.
The safety notes indicate that choline is rated Likely Safe during pregnancy and lactation, but you should use prenatal or supplement doses only as your doctor advises, since choline needs are higher while breastfeeding and require professional guidance.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you take atropine (a Minor interaction), double-check with your pharmacist before using this prenatal. We could not check interactions for the Algal Docosahexaenoic Acid component, so mention all your medications when you ask.
The bottom line
