Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: bamboo powder. Bamboo is a plant used traditionally in food and herbal preparations, though the supplement form hasn't been extensively studied for safety.

The powder contains no inactive ingredients listed on the label.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Bamboo product and its label doesn't state a use — see Bamboo's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

We don't have established evidence that bamboo powder works for dental health. The data we hold rates it insufficient reliable evidence — meaning the research so far hasn't proven it does or doesn't work for this use.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Bamboo shoots are safe to eat when properly cooked, but supplement safety isn't well studied. Raw shoots can be toxic.

Bamboo shoots naturally contain cyanide glycosides, but boiling, fermenting, or steam-drying removes the hydrogen cyanide — so food-grade preparation is key. Topically, bamboo has rarely caused contact dermatitis in sensitive individuals.

For pregnancy, there isn't enough safety data on bamboo supplements, so avoid concentrated forms. While breastfeeding, safety is unknown; avoid concentrated extracts unless your doctor clears it.

Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you if you're pregnant or nursing.

Antithyroid Drugs

Theoretically, long-term bamboo use might increase the effects and adverse effects of antithyroid drugs, possibly leading to hypothyroidism.
Animal research suggests that long-term consumption of bamboo shoot can decrease thyroid peroxidase activity, as well as levels of thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). This effect has not yet been reported in humans.
