Chamomile is generally well tolerated by most adults, but there's a real allergy risk if you're sensitive to ragweed or related plants—some people have had severe reactions including anaphylaxis. When applied to skin, it may cause allergic dermatitis or eczema.

German chamomile has mild sedative effects. Theoretically, concomitant use with drugs with sedative properties can cause additive effects and side effects.
