This product contains three active cherry fruit extracts: Tart Cherry (also called sour cherry), Black Cherry, and Sweet Cherry. Each brings a different cherry variety to the blend.
The 3 active ingredients are supported by several inactive ingredients — cellulose, hypromellose, purified water, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide — which are standard capsule fillers and binders. The cherry extracts are concentrated forms of the fruit.
While the whole fruits are everyday foods, these extracts pack much more per serving, so the safety profile can differ from eating fresh cherries.

Not established
The evidence for what these cherry extracts actually do is mixed. Tart Cherry shows possibly effective evidence for athletic performance; for ADHD, cognitive function, muscle soreness, respiratory infections, and fibromyalgia, the evidence is insufficient to rate.
Sweet Cherry has insufficient evidence for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, and osteoarthritis. Black Cherry has no effectiveness ratings on file in our data.
In plain terms: Tart Cherry has some promise for athletic recovery, but for most other uses listed here, we don't yet have solid evidence either way.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Tart Cherry is generally well tolerated when you eat the whole fruit or juice, but concentrated supplements are less studied, so caution is advised. The most common side effects from tart cherry juice concentrate or extract are abdominal pain, loose stools, and general stomach upset — in one study, about 29% of children on high-dose tart cherry juice reported belly pain.
One allergic skin reaction to a cherry-apple juice blend has been reported. Black Cherry carries a serious caution: the plant contains compounds that can produce cyanide if consumed in large amounts.
While small amounts in commercial cough products are considered safe, large doses can be toxic and potentially fatal — one documented case involved severe poisoning from 300 grams of whole cherries steeped in alcohol. Sweet Cherry can trigger allergic reactions in sensitive people, ranging from mouth irritation to hives, swelling, breathing trouble, or stomach symptoms.
For pregnancy, Tart Cherry and Sweet Cherry are rated likely safe; Black Cherry has no pregnancy or breastfeeding data on file.

In vitro (test-tube) research suggests Black Cherry can inhibit CYP3A4 enzymes, a major liver pathway that breaks down many drugs. While this interaction hasn't been reported in humans yet, it's theoretically possible that Black Cherry could raise levels of medications metabolized this way, including lovastatin and ketoconazole, among others.

Black Cherry Fruit Extract
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
In vitro research suggests that wild cherry can inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzymes. Theoretically, wild cherry might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4. However, so far, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and others.
