What’s inside
Full disclosure
Choline 250 mg is a straightforward one-ingredient supplement: just choline itself, the active ingredient. Choline is a nutrient your body uses to support cell membranes, nerve function, and brain health.
The tablet also contains inactive ingredients — cellulose, silica, and magnesium stearate — which are fillers and binders that hold the tablet together.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for choline's effectiveness varies by use. For athletic performance, the data suggests it's likely ineffective.
For Alzheimer disease, age-related cognitive decline, bronchitis, hay fever, and a liver condition that sometimes occurs with IV nutrition (TPN-associated hepatic steatosis), there isn't enough reliable evidence yet to rate whether it works. If you're considering choline for one of these uses, talk it over with your doctor to see if it's right for you.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Choline is generally well tolerated at the doses in most supplements and foods. However, doses above 3.5 grams daily can cause side effects — fishy body odor (from how your gut breaks down choline), nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sweating, and salivation are the most common ones at very high doses of 9 grams or more.
Choline is important during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and the safety data rates it as likely safe in those situations. That said, doses should only be what your doctor advises — don't guess on prenatal or supplement amounts on your own.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about what's right for you if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
Before you take this product, double-check your medications against our search tool. The one interaction documented is minor — choline might slightly decrease the effects of atropine, a drug used for certain eye conditions and poisoning antidotes.
If you take atropine, confirm with your doctor or pharmacist that choline is okay for you.
