Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: choline, at 500 mg per tablet. Choline is a nutrient your body uses to make acetylcholine, a chemical messenger in your brain and nervous system, and it also plays a role in cell structure and fat metabolism.
The inactive ingredients—cellulose, hypromellose, silica, magnesium stearate, sodium croscarmellose, stearic acid, and glycerin—are fillers and binders that hold the tablet together.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence we have rates choline as possibly ineffective for athletic performance. For other conditions listed—bronchitis, age-related cognitive decline, liver problems in people on parenteral nutrition (TPN), hay fever, and Alzheimer's disease—the evidence isn't strong enough yet to say whether it works or doesn't.
If you're considering this supplement for a specific health goal, talk with your pharmacist about whether the current evidence supports that use.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Choline is well tolerated at the dose in this product (500 mg). Problems show up at much higher doses—above 3.5 grams daily, you may notice a fishy body odor from how your gut breaks down choline.
At doses of 9 grams or more, choline can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sweating, and salivation. Choline is important during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, but take only the dose your doctor or midwife recommends—don't self-dose a supplement without guidance.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you take atropine or anticholinergic medications, double-check this product with your pharmacist or doctor before starting. Choline may reduce how well these drugs work in your brain.
We have documented interactions only for atropine-type medications in our data.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
This single-ingredient choline supplement is generally well tolerated at the 500 mg dose. It's worth checking with your pharmacist if you take atropine or anticholinergic medications.
If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or thinking about using choline for a specific condition, chat with your healthcare provider first to make sure it's right for you.
