Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Choline Citrate contains one active ingredient: choline citrate, a form of choline. Choline is a nutrient your body uses to support memory, brain health, and muscle function.

This product contains no other active ingredients.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Choline's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: positive mood, focus and concentration.
  • We looked for evidence on: Age-related cognitive decline, Alzheimer disease, Cognitive function, Dementia, Depression, Mental clarity — and 3 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Choline is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Age-related cognitive decline (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Choline is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Alzheimer disease, Cognitive function, Dementia, Depression.

The evidence for choline citrate's effectiveness varies by use. For athletic performance, the data suggests it's possibly ineffective.

For other claimed uses—including age-related cognitive decline, Alzheimer disease, allergic rhinitis (hay fever), bronchitis, and a liver condition called TPN-associated hepatic steatosis—there isn't enough reliable evidence yet to say whether it works. If you're considering this for a specific condition, talk with your doctor about whether the evidence supports its use for your situation.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Choline is well tolerated when used at appropriate doses. However, high-dose supplements can cause side effects and have an upper safe limit of 3.5 grams daily.

At doses of 9 grams or more, choline has been reported to cause diarrhea, nausea, salivation, sweating, vomiting, and a distinctive fishy body odor from how your body breaks it down. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, choline is important for your baby's development and your own health, but you should use it only at doses recommended by your doctor.

The data supports that it's likely safe at appropriate doses during these times, but personalized guidance from your healthcare provider is essential.

Only Minor-severity interactions are documented for these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Choline.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Minor.
  • For scale: 16 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take atropine (used for certain eye conditions and other purposes), let your doctor know you're considering choline citrate — it may theoretically decrease atropine's effects in the brain. No interactions are documented for the other medications in our data, but run your exact prescriptions through the checker on this page to be sure.

Atropine

Theoretically, choline might decrease the effects of atropine in the brain.
Animal research shows that administering choline one hour before administering atropine can attenuate atropine-induced decreases in brain levels of acetylcholine. Theoretically, concomitant use of choline and atropine may decrease the effects of atropine.

Choline Citrate by SNS Serious Nutrition Solutions: Common Questions

Does Choline Citrate by SNS Serious Nutrition Solutions interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Choline Citrate has a known interaction with 16 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Choline Citrate contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What's choline citrate for?
Choline is a nutrient your body needs for brain health, memory, and muscle function. This product provides choline in citrate form. The evidence for specific health claims like boosting athletic performance or protecting your memory varies — some uses have limited or unclear evidence, so talk with your doctor about whether it's right for what you're aiming for.
Is this safe to take every day?
Choline is generally well tolerated at normal doses, but there's an upper safe limit of 3.5 grams daily. Going over that can cause side effects like a fishy body odor, nausea, diarrhea, and sweating. Keep your daily dose below that threshold and check the label to see how much this powder delivers per serving.
Can I take this while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Choline is actually important during pregnancy and breastfeeding for your baby's development and your own health. The data shows it's likely safe at appropriate doses, but you should only use it at doses your doctor recommends—not at your own guess. Talk with your obstetrician or midwife about what's right for you.
What side effects can choline cause?
At normal doses, side effects are rare. But at high doses of 9 grams or more daily, choline can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, salivation, sweating, and a fishy body odor. Very high doses may also cause stomach discomfort. Staying below the 3.5-gram daily upper limit helps you avoid these.
Does this interact with my medications?
Choline may theoretically decrease the effects of atropine (an eye and other medication) in the brain. No other interactions are documented in our data for the medications we've checked, but run your exact prescriptions through the checker on this page or talk with your pharmacist to be certain.
