Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: choline DL-bitartrate, supplied at 600 mg per capsule. Choline is a nutrient your body uses to support brain function, muscle control, and cell signaling.

The capsule itself is made from hypromellose, a plant-derived material.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Choline product and its label doesn't state a use — see Choline's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for choline DL-bitartrate is mixed. For athletic performance, the data suggests it's possibly ineffective — meaning it's unlikely to help you perform better in sports or exercise.

For other uses — including bronchitis, age-related cognitive decline, liver fat related to nutrition support, hay fever, and Alzheimer disease — we don't have enough reliable evidence yet to say whether it works or not.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Choline is well tolerated when you stay within normal food amounts and reasonable supplement doses. The tolerable daily upper limit is 3.5 grams.

Above that, especially at doses of 9 grams daily or higher, you may experience diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, fishy body odor, salivation, sweating, and loss of appetite. Gastrointestinal discomfort has been reported at very high doses.

Choline is considered likely safe in pregnancy and while breastfeeding, but because your needs are higher during these times, use it only as your doctor or pharmacist advises — don't self-dose.

Only Minor-severity interactions are documented for these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Choline.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Minor.
  • For scale: 16 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take atropine (used for certain eye conditions and some types of poisoning), this ingredient may decrease its effects — a Minor interaction. No other medication interactions are documented for choline in our data, but review your complete medication list with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.

Choline DL-Bitartrate 600 mg by BulkSupplements.com: Common Questions

Does Choline DL-Bitartrate 600 mg by BulkSupplements.com interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Choline DL-Bitartrate 600 mg has a known interaction with 16 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Choline DL-Bitartrate 600 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will choline help me think better or prevent memory loss?
For age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer disease, we don't yet have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works. For athletic performance, the data suggests it's likely ineffective. Talk with your doctor about whether choline makes sense for your specific situation.
What's the fishy body odor I might get?
At high doses, your gut can break down choline into a compound called trimethylamine, which your body releases through sweat and breath, creating a fishy smell. This is more likely at doses well above what's in a single 600 mg capsule, especially if you're taking multiple doses daily or exceeding the 3.5 gram daily upper limit.
Is choline safe during pregnancy?
Choline is considered likely safe in pregnancy, and your body actually needs more of it during this time. But don't self-dose — use supplements only at the dose your doctor or pharmacist recommends for you.
What happens if I take too much?
Doses above 3.5 grams daily can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sweating, and salivation. Very high doses — 9 grams or more daily — increase the risk of these side effects and gastrointestinal discomfort. Stick to the label dose and talk with your doctor if you're considering taking more.
Does this capsule have any fillers or binders?
The capsule shell itself is made from hypromellose, a plant-derived material used to hold the choline. There are no other inactive ingredients in this product.
