What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: choline L-bitartrate, a form of choline — an essential nutrient your body uses to make and maintain cell membranes, produce neurotransmitters, and support liver and brain function. The powder has no other inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for choline L-bitartrate is mixed and limited. It's rated possibly ineffective for athletic performance.
For age-related cognitive decline, Alzheimer disease, bronchitis, allergic rhinitis (hay fever), and TPN-associated hepatic steatosis (a liver condition in people on prolonged IV nutrition), we don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works. Talk with your doctor about what the research supports for your specific goal.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Choline L-bitartrate is well tolerated at normal food and supplement doses. High doses — especially those exceeding 3.5 grams daily — can cause side effects.
At doses of 9 grams daily or higher, you may experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sweating, salivation, and a fishy body odor. The fishy smell comes from how your gut breaks down excess choline.
Choline is important during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but the safety data advises using only prenatal or supplement doses as advised by your doctor, and under professional guidance while breastfeeding. There isn't enough information on file here to advise you on pregnancy or breastfeeding use on your own — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized guidance.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
Before you start choline L-bitartrate, double-check any atropine or anticholinergic medications you take with your doctor or pharmacist. Choline may theoretically reduce how well these drugs work.
No other medication interactions are documented in our data for this ingredient.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
Choline L-bitartrate is a single-ingredient supplement that may be worth considering if you're looking to support choline intake, though evidence for specific health claims is limited or absent. If you take atropine or any anticholinergic medication, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
