What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: choline L-bitartrate, a form of choline — a nutrient that your body needs for nerve and brain function, cell structure, and making a chemical messenger called acetylcholine. There are no inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for choline L-bitartrate is mixed and often limited. For athletic performance, the evidence suggests it's probably not effective.
For several other uses — bronchitis, age-related cognitive decline, fatty liver from total parenteral nutrition, hay fever, and Alzheimer's disease — we don't hold enough reliable evidence to say whether it works or doesn't. If you're considering it for a specific health goal, it's worth discussing with your doctor or pharmacist what the current evidence actually supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Choline is generally well tolerated when you use it in amounts found in food and in standard supplement doses. However, high-dose supplements carry an upper limit of 3.5 grams daily; doses beyond that can cause side effects.
At doses of 9 grams or higher, some people report fishy-smelling body odor, diarrhea, nausea, sweating, salivation, vomiting, and loss of appetite. Even higher doses (32 grams) have been linked to more severe digestive symptoms.
Choline is important during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but safety data rates it as likely safe — meaning use it only in the amounts and forms your doctor or prenatal provider recommends, not as a standalone high-dose supplement without guidance.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you take atropine (used for certain eye exams or medical conditions), choline might theoretically decrease its effects in the brain — this is a minor interaction, but worth discussing with your doctor or pharmacist before you start. For any other medications you take, use the search tool on this page to check for interactions.
The bottom line
