Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: choline L-bitartrate, a form of choline — an essential nutrient your body uses to build cell membranes, produce neurotransmitters, and support liver function. It comes as a powder with no inactive ingredients listed.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Choline product and its label doesn't state a use — see Choline's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for choline L-bitartrate is mixed. For athletic performance, the data suggests it's possibly ineffective.

For age-related cognitive decline, Alzheimer's disease, bronchitis, hay fever, and a liver condition associated with total parenteral nutrition (TPN), we don't have enough reliable evidence to rate how well it works.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Choline is generally well tolerated when used at appropriate doses — those in the food supply or within recommended supplement ranges. However, doses above the daily upper limit of 3.5 grams can cause side effects.

At very high doses (9 grams or more daily), people have reported fishy body odor, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and increased salivation. Even higher doses (32 grams daily) have caused severe gastrointestinal problems.

Choline is important during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, but use only prenatal or supplement doses under your doctor's guidance.

The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Is choline safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding?

Fishy body odor is the most commonly reported effect. At very high doses of 9 grams daily or more, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and increased salivation can also occur.
