What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 0 of its 2 active ingredients.
  • “Colostrum Plus(R)” is listed as a grouped ingredient — the label gives one combined amount (960 mg) without saying how much of each component you get.

This product has 2 active ingredients: bovine colostrum and phospholipids. Bovine colostrum is the milk produced by cows in the first few days after giving birth — it's rich in antibodies and proteins thought to support digestive and immune function.

Phospholipids are fat-like compounds that may help with absorption and cell structure.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: immune support and gut health.
  • We looked for evidence on: Chemotherapy-related infection, Critical illness (trauma), Exercise-induced respiratory infections, HIV/AIDS-related diarrhea, Influenza, Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) — and 4 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Bovine Colostrum is rated "Possibly Effective" for HIV/AIDS-related diarrhea (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Bovine Colostrum is rated "Possibly Effective" for Exercise-induced respiratory infections, Rotaviral diarrhea.
  • Also on file: Bovine Colostrum is rated "Possibly Ineffective" for Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), Sepsis.

The evidence on bovine colostrum is mixed. It's rated possibly effective for HIV/AIDS-related diarrhea, rotaviral diarrhea, and exercise-induced respiratory infections — meaning there's some promise, but the research isn't conclusive yet.

For necrotizing enterocolitis (a serious intestinal condition in newborns), the data suggests it's likely ineffective. We don't hold effectiveness data on phospholipids.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Bovine colostrum is generally well tolerated in most adults. A small number of trial participants reported mild bloating, nausea, diarrhea, and unsettled stomach at about the same rate as those taking a whey-based placebo.

One person with HIV-related cryptosporidiosis experienced nausea and vomiting. People with a milk or dairy allergy should avoid it.

There isn't enough reliable safety data in pregnancy to recommend it without your doctor's approval, and safety during breastfeeding isn't well studied — talk with your provider before using it if you're pregnant or nursing.
