CysReplete Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking CysReplete against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
CysReplete contains three active ingredients. L-cysteine hydrochloride is an amino acid (a building block of protein) meant to support your body's sulfur metabolism and antioxidant pathways.
Selenium is a mineral essential for thyroid function and protecting cells from damage. Folate is a B vitamin important for cell division and DNA synthesis.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients—vegetable-based capsule material, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, and rice flour—which are fillers and binders used to form and stabilize the supplement.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence supporting these ingredients is mixed and often limited. Selenium is likely effective for treating selenium deficiency and possibly effective for Kashin-Beck disease (a joint condition), pre-eclampsia (a pregnancy complication), and autoimmune thyroiditis (thyroid inflammation); however, it appears ineffective for dyslipidemia (abnormal blood lipids).
For L-cysteine, the evidence isn't established—we have insufficient data to rate its effectiveness for androgenic alopecia (hair loss), venous leg ulcers, hangover, stroke, or gastritis. We hold no effectiveness data for folate in this product.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-cysteine is generally well tolerated in food amounts, but the safety of high-dose supplements over time hasn't been well studied—avoid high-dose supplements unless your doctor advises otherwise. Selenium is safe in small recommended amounts, but excess selenium can be toxic; stay within the tolerable upper intake level of 400 mcg daily.
Most people tolerate selenium well at normal doses, though some experience gastric discomfort, headache, or rash. Rare serious effects from excessive amounts include multi-organ failure.
Chronic high-dose exposure may raise the risk of certain skin cancers and neurological problems. Pregnancy and lactation safety data for L-cysteine suggests it's likely safe; we hold no pregnancy or lactation data for selenium or folate in our records.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking CysReplete, check with your pharmacist if you use blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (Moderate concern), diabetes medications (Moderate), barbiturate sedatives (Moderate), warfarin specifically (Moderate), immune-suppressing drugs (Moderate), oral contraceptives (Minor), or niacin for cholesterol (Minor).
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you take diabetes medications, blood thinners, barbiturates, warfarin, immune suppressors, oral contraceptives, or niacin, you'll want to check this product with your medications before starting. The selenium content in particular warrants a careful look at your prescriptions.

CysReplete by CHK Nutrition Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
CysReplete by CHK Nutrition contains three active ingredients, two of which have documented interactions with medications.
The most serious concern is selenium's Moderate-severity interaction with blood thinners (anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs): selenium may increase bleeding risk by affecting how platelets clump together. L-cysteine carries a Moderate-severity interaction with diabetes medications, as animal research suggests it can lower blood sugar and theoretically raise the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Selenium also interacts Moderately with barbiturates (sedative medications), potentially prolonging their calming effects, and with warfarin specifically—it may interfere with warfarin's blood-thinning action. Additionally, selenium theoretically may reduce how well immune-suppressing drugs work.
A Minor interaction exists with oral contraceptives (which may increase selenium levels) and with niacin, a cholesterol medication (selenium might reduce niacin's beneficial effect on HDL cholesterol).
We could not check folate for interactions—we hold no data for that ingredient. Altogether, these interactions span 402 individual medications.

For each ingredient in CysReplete with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Selenium
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Selenium may have antiplatelet effects and may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Clinical research suggests that taking selenium 10 mcg/kg/day can increase bleeding times by increasing prostacyclin production, which inhibits platelet activity. Other clinical research suggests that taking selenium 75 mcg daily, in combination with ascorbic acid 600 mg, alpha-tocopherol 300 mg, and beta-carotene 27 mg, reduces platelet aggregation.
Barbiturates
Theoretically, selenium might prolong the sedating effects of barbiturates.
Laboratory research suggests that selenium can inhibit the hepatic metabolism of barbiturates. Selenium seems to prolong the sedative effect of pentobarbital in animal models.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, selenium supplementation may reduce the effectiveness of immunosuppressant therapy.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggests that selenium may stimulate the immune system.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, selenium might interfere with warfarin activity.
Animal research suggests that selenium can increase warfarin activity. Selenium might interact with warfarin by displacing it from albumin binding sites, reducing its metabolism in the liver, or by decreasing production of vitamin K-dependent clotting factors. Selenium can also prolong bleeding times in humans by increasing prostacyclin production, which inhibits platelet activity.
Contraceptive Drugs
Contraceptive drugs might increase levels of selenium, although the clinical significance of this effect is unclear.
Some research suggests that oral contraceptives increase serum selenium levels in women taking oral contraceptives; however, other research shows no change in selenium levels. It is suggested that an increase could be due to increased carrier proteins, indicating a redistribution of selenium rather than a change in total body selenium.
Niacin
Selenium might reduce the beneficial effects of niacin on high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels.
A combination of niacin and simvastatin (Zocor) effectively raises HDL cholesterol levels in patients with coronary disease and low HDL levels. Clinical research shows that taking a combination of antioxidants (vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene, and selenium) along with niacin and simvastatin (Zocor) attenuates this rise in HDL, specifically the HDL-2 and apolipoprotein A1 fractions, by more than 50% in patients with coronary disease. It is not known whether this adverse effect is due to a single antioxidant such as selenium, or to the combination. It also is not known whether it will occur in other patient populations.
L-Cysteine Hydrochloride
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking L-cysteine supplements with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Animal research suggests that L-cysteine can have hypoglycemic effects.
