Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Dandelion Leaf by Herb Stop contains one active ingredient: dandelion. The product is delivered in capsules made from hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (a plant-based capsule material), with purified water as an inactive ingredient.
Does it work?
Insufficient evidence
The evidence we hold on dandelion leaf doesn't establish that it works for any particular condition. The data shows insufficient reliable evidence for joint pain, tonsillitis, postoperative swelling, and postoperative pain.
If you're considering this product for a specific health goal, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist to see whether the evidence supports its use and whether it's right for you.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Dandelion is generally well tolerated orally, though supplement-strength doses are less studied than the herb as food. The most common side effects are diarrhea, heartburn, and stomach discomfort.
Topically, it can cause contact dermatitis in sensitive individuals. Rarely, people sensitive to dandelion pollen or related plants (like ragweed, daisies, and marigolds—members of the Asteraceae family) may have allergic reactions including anaphylaxis, or develop allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis.
We don't have enough reliable safety information on dandelion during breastfeeding, so caution is advised if you're nursing. There's also limited safety data overall on concentrated supplements.
Talk with your doctor before starting this product, especially if you have allergies, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have conditions that might be affected by its diuretic or blood-sugar-lowering properties.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking Dandelion Leaf if you use blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs, diabetes medications, potassium-sparing diuretics, lithium, fluoroquinolone antibiotics, or any drug metabolized by CYP1A2 or glucuronidation pathways. Dandelion may raise your risk of bleeding, low blood sugar, or dangerously high potassium, and may reduce antibiotic effectiveness or lithium clearance.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with insufficient evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Dandelion leaf is not a good fit if you take blood thinners, diabetes medications, lithium, potassium-sparing diuretics, or common oral antibiotics—and it may affect how many other drugs work. If you have allergies to ragweed or related plants, avoid it.
Before you start, check your exact medications with your doctor or pharmacist, especially if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any chronic conditions.

Dandelion Leaf by Herb Stop Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Dandelion Leaf by Herb Stop has documented interactions with multiple medication types.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs)—dandelion root may inhibit how platelets clump together, raising your risk of bruising and bleeding. Additionally, dandelion may affect how your body clears several drug categories.
It can theoretically slow the metabolism of certain drugs processed by your liver (CYP1A2 substrates), raise blood levels of drugs eliminated through glucuronidation, and lower levels of fluoroquinolone antibiotics (a common class of oral antibiotics) by as much as 73% in animal studies—though this hasn't been confirmed in people yet.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Dandelion also carries Moderate-severity interactions with potassium-sparing diuretics (water pills that hold potassium), blood sugar medications, and lithium. Because dandelion is high in potassium, combining it with potassium-sparing diuretics could push potassium too high (a condition called hyperkalemia).
It may lower blood sugar on its own, so pairing it with diabetes drugs increases your risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Through its diuretic effect, dandelion might reduce how much lithium your kidneys clear, potentially raising lithium levels to unsafe amounts.
Although dandelion is well tolerated as a food, we have limited safety data on supplement-strength doses. Altogether, these interactions span 457 individual medications.

For each ingredient in Dandelion Leaf with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Dandelion
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, taking dandelion root along with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
In vitro research suggests that dandelion root inhibits platelet aggregation.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the risk for hypoglycemia when used with antidiabetes drugs.
Laboratory research suggests that dandelion extract may have moderate alpha-glucosidase inhibitor activity and might also increase insulin secretion. Also, in a case report, a 58-year-old woman with type 2 diabetes who was being treated with insulin developed hypoglycemia 2 weeks after beginning to eat salads containing dandelion.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, dandelion might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
Laboratory research suggests that dandelion might inhibit CYP1A2. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, until more is known, watch for an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 in patients taking dandelion.
Glucuronidated Drugs
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the clearance of drugs that are UDP-glucuronosyltransferase substrates.
There is some preliminary evidence that dandelion might induce UDP-glucuronosyltransferase, a phase II enzyme.
Lithium
Theoretically, through diuretic effects, dandelion might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Animal research suggests that dandelion has diuretic properties. As diuretics can increase serum lithium levels, the dose of lithium might need to be decreased when taken with dandelion.
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the risk of hyperkalemia when taken with potassium-sparing diuretics.
Dandelion contains significant amounts of potassium.
Quinolone Antibiotics
Theoretically, dandelion might lower fluoroquinolone levels.
Animal research shows that dandelion reduces absorption of ciprofloxacin and can lower levels by 73%. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.
