Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product is dandelion powder — the whole dried leaf — with no added active ingredients. It's just one component with a long history in herbal medicine, now sold in supplement form at concentrated levels higher than you'd typically eat in food.
There are no inactive ingredients listed for this powder.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold doesn't establish that dandelion powder works for joint pain, tonsillitis, postoperative swelling, or postoperative pain. The ratings across these uses all show insufficient reliable evidence, which means the studies aren't robust enough yet to say whether it helps.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Dandelion is generally well tolerated when you eat it as food, but supplement-strength doses haven't been as thoroughly studied. The most common side effects are diarrhea, heartburn, and stomach discomfort.
A small number of people may have allergic reactions, including in rare cases anaphylaxis — especially if you're sensitive to plants in the ragweed family (Asteraceae/Compositae), which includes chrysanthemums, marigolds, and daisies. Dandelion pollen can also trigger allergic rhinitis, asthma, and other respiratory symptoms in sensitive individuals.
We don't have enough reliable safety data for breastfeeding, so caution is advised. There's no safety data on file for use during pregnancy either.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized guidance if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking dandelion, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on any of these: blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (aspirin, warfarin, clopidogrel); diabetes medications; potassium-sparing water pills; lithium; fluoroquinolone antibiotics like ciprofloxacin; or any drugs processed through the liver enzyme CYP1A2. No interactions are documented for any other ingredients in this product, but dandelion's moderate-severity effects across these categories warrant a conversation with your own healthcare provider.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Dandelion leaf powder is one to check before you start if you take any prescription medications — especially blood thinners, diabetes drugs, lithium, potassium-sparing diuretics, or fluoroquinolone antibiotics. It's generally well tolerated as food, but supplement doses are less studied and can cause allergies or stomach upset, and the evidence doesn't yet support its use for the conditions listed here.
Have a conversation with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Dandelion Leaf Powder by TerraVita Premium Collection contains one active ingredient — dandelion — that interacts with a number of medication types.
The most serious concerns are moderate-severity interactions across seven drug categories. Altogether, these interactions span 457 individual medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Dandelion may increase levels of drugs processed through a liver enzyme called CYP1A2 (cytochrome P450 1A2 substrates), potentially raising their concentration in your blood. It also carries a theoretical risk of raising potassium to unsafe levels if you're on potassium-sparing water pills (potassium-sparing diuretics), since dandelion itself is high in potassium.
Because dandelion may slow blood clotting (anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs), it could increase your risk of bruising and bleeding.
Additionally, dandelion might lower your blood sugar more than intended if you take diabetes medications (antidiabetes drugs), raising the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). It may speed up the clearance of certain drugs that your body eliminates through a specific pathway (glucuronidated drugs), making them less effective.
Dandelion's diuretic properties may also reduce how well your kidneys clear lithium, causing it to build up in your system. Finally, animal research shows dandelion may reduce absorption of fluoroquinolone antibiotics by a significant margin, though this hasn't been confirmed in humans yet.
Use the medication checker on this page to run your exact prescriptions against dandelion before you start.

For each ingredient in Dandelion Leaf Powder with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Dandelion, Powder
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, taking dandelion root along with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
In vitro research suggests that dandelion root inhibits platelet aggregation.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the risk for hypoglycemia when used with antidiabetes drugs.
Laboratory research suggests that dandelion extract may have moderate alpha-glucosidase inhibitor activity and might also increase insulin secretion. Also, in a case report, a 58-year-old woman with type 2 diabetes who was being treated with insulin developed hypoglycemia 2 weeks after beginning to eat salads containing dandelion.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, dandelion might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
Laboratory research suggests that dandelion might inhibit CYP1A2. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, until more is known, watch for an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 in patients taking dandelion.
Glucuronidated Drugs
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the clearance of drugs that are UDP-glucuronosyltransferase substrates.
There is some preliminary evidence that dandelion might induce UDP-glucuronosyltransferase, a phase II enzyme.
Lithium
Theoretically, through diuretic effects, dandelion might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Animal research suggests that dandelion has diuretic properties. As diuretics can increase serum lithium levels, the dose of lithium might need to be decreased when taken with dandelion.
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the risk of hyperkalemia when taken with potassium-sparing diuretics.
Dandelion contains significant amounts of potassium.
Quinolone Antibiotics
Theoretically, dandelion might lower fluoroquinolone levels.
Animal research shows that dandelion reduces absorption of ciprofloxacin and can lower levels by 73%. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.
