HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Dandelion Root 520 mg by Wonder Laboratories
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: 520 mg of dandelion root per capsule. Dandelion is a plant traditionally used in herbal medicine and eaten as food, though supplement-strength doses are less well studied than the whole food form.
The capsule itself is made from gelatin and magnesium silicate (inactive ingredients).
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold doesn't establish whether dandelion root works for joint pain, tonsillitis, or swelling and pain after surgery — the data available shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for these uses. If you're considering it for a specific condition, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist about what the science currently supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Dandelion is generally well tolerated as a food, but supplement-strength doses have limited safety data. The most common side effects are diarrhea, heartburn, and stomach discomfort.
Rarely, people sensitive to dandelion may experience anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction), contact dermatitis when applied to skin, or allergic reactions if the product contains dandelion pollen — especially if you're allergic to ragweed, daisies, or other plants in the Asteraceae family. There isn't enough data to know whether it's safe while breastfeeding, so caution is advised.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners (anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs), diabetes medications, potassium-sparing diuretics, fluoroquinolone antibiotics, lithium, or drugs broken down by the liver enzyme CYP1A2. Dandelion may affect how these medications work or raise the risk of side effects like bleeding, low blood sugar, or high potassium levels.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Dandelion Root 520 mg is most relevant if you're interested in traditional herbal use, but the evidence for specific medical purposes isn't established in our data. It has several Moderate-severity interactions with common medications, especially blood thinners and diabetes drugs, so if you take any prescription medication, check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this supplement.
If you have a pollen allergy or a sensitivity to the daisy family of plants, be alert for allergic reactions.

Dandelion Root 520 mg by Wonder Laboratories Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Dandelion Root 520 mg by Wonder Laboratories has documented interactions with multiple medication types.
The most serious concern is a Moderate-severity interaction with blood thinners (anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs): dandelion root may inhibit platelet clumping, raising the risk of bruising and bleeding when combined with these medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Dandelion also interacts Moderately with drugs metabolized by the liver enzyme CYP1A2, potassium-sparing diuretics (water pills that preserve potassium), diabetes medications, and quinolone antibiotics (like ciprofloxacin). It may reduce the effectiveness of the antibiotics, increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) with diabetes drugs, and raise potassium to unsafe levels when paired with certain diuretics.
Additionally, dandelion may affect how your liver clears glucuronidated drugs and may increase lithium levels through its diuretic effect.
Altogether, these interactions span 457 individual medications. If you take any prescription medication — especially blood thinners, diabetes treatments, antibiotics, or diuretics — run it through the checker below before starting this supplement.

For each ingredient in Dandelion Root 520 mg with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Dandelion
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, taking dandelion root along with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
In vitro research suggests that dandelion root inhibits platelet aggregation.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the risk for hypoglycemia when used with antidiabetes drugs.
Laboratory research suggests that dandelion extract may have moderate alpha-glucosidase inhibitor activity and might also increase insulin secretion. Also, in a case report, a 58-year-old woman with type 2 diabetes who was being treated with insulin developed hypoglycemia 2 weeks after beginning to eat salads containing dandelion.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, dandelion might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
Laboratory research suggests that dandelion might inhibit CYP1A2. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, until more is known, watch for an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 in patients taking dandelion.
Glucuronidated Drugs
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the clearance of drugs that are UDP-glucuronosyltransferase substrates.
There is some preliminary evidence that dandelion might induce UDP-glucuronosyltransferase, a phase II enzyme.
Lithium
Theoretically, through diuretic effects, dandelion might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Animal research suggests that dandelion has diuretic properties. As diuretics can increase serum lithium levels, the dose of lithium might need to be decreased when taken with dandelion.
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the risk of hyperkalemia when taken with potassium-sparing diuretics.
Dandelion contains significant amounts of potassium.
Quinolone Antibiotics
Theoretically, dandelion might lower fluoroquinolone levels.
Animal research shows that dandelion reduces absorption of ciprofloxacin and can lower levels by 73%. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.
