What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains 2 active ingredients, both forms of dandelion — dandelion root and dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) extract. The inactive ingredients are a vegetarian capsule, magnesium stearate, and silica.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence we hold doesn't establish how well dandelion works for the conditions listed — joint pain, tonsillitis, postoperative swelling, and postoperative pain all fall under insufficient reliable evidence to rate. That doesn't mean it doesn't work; it means the research data supporting these uses isn't solid enough for us to make a claim.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Orally, dandelion is generally well tolerated, though supplement-strength doses are less studied than dandelion as a food. The most common side effects are diarrhea, heartburn, and stomach discomfort.
Rare serious reactions include anaphylaxis in sensitive people, and allergic reactions (including anaphylaxis, asthma, and allergic rhinitis) can occur if you're sensitive to dandelion pollen or to the ragweed family (Asteraceae/Compositae), which includes ragweed, daisies, marigolds, and chrysanthemums. There isn't enough reliable information on safety while breastfeeding, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using this supplement if you're nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (risk of bleeding), diabetes medications (risk of low blood sugar), potassium-sparing water pills, lithium, fluoroquinolone antibiotics like ciprofloxacin, or drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 or UDP-glucuronosyltransferase enzymes. These are the main medication types documented to interact with dandelion.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Dandelion root extract is generally well tolerated as a food, but supplement doses are less studied. The bigger question is whether it interacts with your medications — especially blood thinners, diabetes drugs, water pills, lithium, or certain antibiotics.
Before you start, check your exact medications with your doctor or pharmacist.

Dandelion Root Extract by Natural Factors HerbalFactors Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Natural Factors HerbalFactors Dandelion Root Extract interacts with medications through its dandelion content.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners (anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs) — dandelion may increase bruising and bleeding risk because it can inhibit how blood platelets clump together.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
You'll also want to watch for interactions with diabetes medications (insulin and related drugs), since dandelion might lower blood sugar further and raise the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Dandelion may also affect potassium-sparing water pills (diuretics that keep potassium in your body), raising potassium levels to unsafe ranges.
It could increase lithium levels through its diuretic effects, and it may speed up how your liver clears certain drugs metabolized by an enzyme called CYP1A2, potentially making them less effective. Finally, animal research shows dandelion can lower fluoroquinolone antibiotic (like ciprofloxacin) levels by as much as 73%, though this hasn't been confirmed in humans.
Additionally, dandelion may increase clearance of drugs processed by a liver enzyme called UDP-glucuronosyltransferase.
Although most of these interactions are theoretical and haven't been reported in people yet, it's important to run your exact medications through the search tool on this page before you start. Altogether, these interactions span 457 individual medications.

For each ingredient in Dandelion Root Extract with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Dandelion
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, taking dandelion root along with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
In vitro research suggests that dandelion root inhibits platelet aggregation.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the risk for hypoglycemia when used with antidiabetes drugs.
Laboratory research suggests that dandelion extract may have moderate alpha-glucosidase inhibitor activity and might also increase insulin secretion. Also, in a case report, a 58-year-old woman with type 2 diabetes who was being treated with insulin developed hypoglycemia 2 weeks after beginning to eat salads containing dandelion.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, dandelion might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
Laboratory research suggests that dandelion might inhibit CYP1A2. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, until more is known, watch for an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 in patients taking dandelion.
Glucuronidated Drugs
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the clearance of drugs that are UDP-glucuronosyltransferase substrates.
There is some preliminary evidence that dandelion might induce UDP-glucuronosyltransferase, a phase II enzyme.
Lithium
Theoretically, through diuretic effects, dandelion might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Animal research suggests that dandelion has diuretic properties. As diuretics can increase serum lithium levels, the dose of lithium might need to be decreased when taken with dandelion.
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the risk of hyperkalemia when taken with potassium-sparing diuretics.
Dandelion contains significant amounts of potassium.
Quinolone Antibiotics
Theoretically, dandelion might lower fluoroquinolone levels.
Animal research shows that dandelion reduces absorption of ciprofloxacin and can lower levels by 73%. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.
