Digestase 2.0 is an 8-ingredient digestive enzyme blend. It includes protease (which breaks down protein), lactase (for dairy), lipase (for fats), amylase (for carbohydrates), cellulase (for fiber), invertase (for sugar), and alpha-galactosidase (for complex carbohydrates).
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients — microcrystalline cellulose, maltodextrin, tapioca dextrin, potato dextrin, mannitol, sodium chloride, calcium gluconate, and sodium stearyl fumarate — which are fillers and binders.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Lactase in this product is effective for lactose intolerance. For the other ingredients — protease, lipase, amylase, cellulase, invertase, and alpha-galactosidase — we hold no effectiveness ratings in our data.
The evidence for lipase in dyspepsia (indigestion) or inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is insufficient to rate. You may want to ask your pharmacist whether this blend matches what you're trying to support.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The protease in this product is generally well tolerated in most adults but may cause digestive upset or allergic reactions in some people. Rarely, occupational exposure to protease powders has triggered allergic rhinitis or asthma, and a few cases of contact dermatitis or allergic reactions have been reported with lactase.
Lipase is generally well tolerated in supplement form, though a thorough safety review hasn't been done. People with serious digestive conditions should use lipase under medical guidance.
During pregnancy, protease safety is not established — it's best avoided unless prescribed. Lactase is likely safe in pregnancy.
For lipase and the other enzymes, there isn't enough data — talk with your doctor before regular use in pregnancy. During breastfeeding, there is little safety data for protease, lactase, and lipase, so ask your doctor or pharmacist first before using regularly.
