Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: pantothenic acid, a B vitamin your body needs for energy metabolism and the health of your skin, hair, and digestive system. The capsule itself is made from microcrystalline cellulose and other inactive fillers like ascorbyl palmitate, silicon dioxide, and sodium stearyl fumarate.

Does it work?

Not established
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Pantothenic Acid's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: cellular energy production and healthy cellular function.
  • We looked for evidence on: Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), Athletic performance, mitochondrial function, metabolic support.
  • The closest evidence on file: Pantothenic Acid is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Athletic performance (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Pantothenic Acid is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).

Pantothenic acid is established as effective for treating pantothenic acid deficiency. For radiation dermatitis, the evidence suggests it's probably not effective.

For allergic rhinitis (hay fever), alopecia areata, and alcoholism, we don't have enough reliable evidence yet to rate whether it works. If you're thinking about this supplement for one of those less-studied uses, talk with your doctor about what the current evidence supports.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Pantothenic acid taken by mouth is generally well tolerated, with diarrhea reported occasionally. When applied to skin, a synthetic form called dexpanthenol can cause itching, burning, irritation, contact dermatitis, or eczema in some people — a small number have reported allergic contact dermatitis.

In pregnancy and breastfeeding, typical dietary amounts and prenatal-vitamin doses are considered likely safe, but before taking high-dose supplements, check with your doctor.
