What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Durian against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. What’s inside

Does it work?
Couldn't assess
We don't hold effectiveness ratings for Durian Fruit Extract in our data, so the evidence for what this supplement actually does isn't established here. If you're considering it for a specific reason, ask us what the intended use is and we can point you toward what's known.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Durian is generally well tolerated as a food in moderation, but it's high in sugar and calories—so if you're watching either, keep portions small. The data on supplement forms like this one is limited, so use it as an occasional food rather than a daily dose, and check with your doctor or pharmacist first.
Rare adverse effects reported in case studies include abdominal discomfort, flatulence, diarrhea, vomiting, and allergic reactions (hives, nasal congestion, runny nose, and hoarseness). These are uncommon, but if you've had any reaction to durian fruit before, be cautious with the extract.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your medications if you drink alcohol regularly or take any drug that interacts with it—the interaction here is Moderate in severity. Since this liquid product contains alcohol as an inactive ingredient, the risk is especially relevant.

The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you enjoy durian as a food and want to try this extract, it's likely fine—but don't mix it with alcohol on the same day, and ask your pharmacist first if you drink regularly or take medications that interact with alcohol. The data on supplement use is thinner than for eating the fruit itself, so start conservatively and watch how you feel.

Durian by Herbal Terra Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Herbal Terra's Durian Fruit Extract has one documented interaction: with alcohol.
The concern comes from a 1941 case report of someone in India who drank alcohol with durian and developed severe pancreas inflammation (acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis) and died, though no similar cases have been published since. A study in mice given durian in alcohol solution is cited but not completed in our data.

Because this product is a liquid extract, it's important to note that the inactive ingredients include alcohol and glycerin—so you're getting some alcohol in the supplement itself. If you drink this product and then consume alcoholic beverages, or if you're taking medications affected by alcohol, that combination deserves a conversation with us.
Although the historical case is sobering, evidence of actual harm in modern times is thin. Still, we'd rather not see you mix this extract with alcohol on the same day.
Use the medication checker below to confirm your exact prescriptions, but if you drink regularly or take any medication that interacts with alcohol, let's talk before you start.

Durian Fruit Extract, Dry
Alcohol (Ethanol)
There is a traditional belief that ingestion of alcohol with durian can be fatal. A case report from 1941 describes an adult in India who developed acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis and died after drinking alcohol with durian, but there have been no other published reports since. A study in mice given homogenized durian fruit flesh in 10% ethanol did not demonstrate any toxicity. However, evidence from in vitro research shows that durian extract can inhibit alcohol dehydrogenase. This activity is similar to the effects of disulfiram. In theory, concomitant use might cause effects similar to disulfiram-ethanol reactions. Until more is known, avoid concomitant use of durian and alcohol.
