Partial

Most active ingredients list an amount, but at least one is hidden in a blend or missing.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 2 active ingredients.
  • “Fadogia agrestis Extract” is listed as a grouped ingredient — the label gives one combined amount (600 mg) without saying how much of each component you get.

This supplement contains two active ingredients. Fadogia agrestis stem extract is included for potential benefits, though the evidence for athletic performance, erectile dysfunction, and malaria is not yet reliable enough to rate.

Tongkat Ali root extract (also called Eurycoma longifolia) is the second ingredient — it has possibly effective evidence for sexual desire, though it appears possibly ineffective for athletic performance. The capsules also contain inactive ingredients: cellulose, silicon dioxide, and magnesium stearate, which are common binders and flow agents.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed

This product doesn't appear to be marketed for a specific use, so we graded its ingredients' overall clinical evidence instead.

Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports its ingredients for:

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.
  • Since the label doesn't commit to one use, we graded the ingredients' overall clinical evidence instead.
  • On file: Sexual desire — rated "Possibly Effective" (Eurycoma Longifolia) (Natural Medicines).

The evidence for what this product can actually do is mixed and often weak. Tongkat Ali shows possibly effective evidence for sexual desire — meaning there's some clinical support, but it's not conclusive.

For athletic performance, the evidence for Tongkat Ali rates as possibly ineffective. For other uses listed — back pain, osteoporosis, and diabetes with Tongkat Ali, plus athletic performance, erectile dysfunction, and malaria with Fadogia agrestis — we don't have enough reliable evidence to rate whether they work.

Talk with your pharmacist about what you're hoping to achieve, and whether this product's evidence matches your goal.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 2 matched ingredients.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 2 of 2.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 2 of 2.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Both ingredients come with safety cautions. Fadogia agrestis is the bigger concern: human safety data are lacking, and animal studies raise questions about possible toxicity to the testicles, liver, and kidneys.

Tongkat Ali is generally well tolerated in short-term studies, but long-term safety is uncertain and product quality varies. Because Tongkat Ali may increase testosterone levels, there's a risk of testosterone-related side effects like acne, insulin resistance, and liver injury if your testosterone goes beyond the normal range.

For pregnancy and breastfeeding, Fadogia agrestis should be avoided — no safety data exist. Tongkat Ali should also be avoided in pregnancy due to possible hormonal effects, and while breastfeeding there isn't enough reliable safety information.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 2 matched ingredients can interact with medications — Eurycoma Longifolia.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • For scale: 248 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking this product, double-check if you're on propranolol (Inderal) or any other blood pressure or heart medication — Tongkat Ali can lower its effectiveness. Additionally, check any medications processed through liver enzymes (CYP1A2, CYP2C19, or CYP2A6 substrates — your pharmacist can tell you if yours are) and any testosterone-boosting treatments.

Fadogia agrestis was not checked for interactions with medications in our data.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glancePartially disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

This product is marketed for sexual desire and athletic performance, but the evidence is limited — Tongkat Ali shows possibly effective support only for sexual desire. Both ingredients raise safety concerns, especially Fadogia agrestis with its animal toxicity signals.

Propranolol (Inderal)

Eurycoma longifolia can reduce the levels and clinical effects of propranolol.
A small clinical study in healthy persons shows that taking a single dose of a water-based Eurycoma longifolia extract 200 mg, in combination with a single dose of propranolol 80 mg, reduces the propranolol area under the curve (AUC) by 29%, reduces the peak concentration by 42%, and increases time to peak concentration by 86% when compared with control. Since the elimination half-life of propranolol did not change, it seems that Eurycoma longifolia alters the kinetics of propranolol by decreasing its absorption in the gut, and not by altering its metabolism. It is not known if separating administration will prevent this interaction.

Likelihood Probable Evidence A
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP1A2 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 2A6 (Cyp2A6) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels of CYP2A6 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP2A6 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 2C19 (Cyp2C19) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP2C19 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Testosterone

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia may further increase levels of testosterone.
A clinical study in aging males with testosterone levels below 300 ng/dL shows that taking a specific water extract of Eurycoma longifolia roots (Physta; Biotropics Malaysia) 100-200 mg daily with breakfast for 12 weeks increases total testosterone levels by 8% to 11% when compared with placebo. It is unclear whether this increase would occur in individuals with normal testosterone levels.

Fadogia Agrestis with Tongkat Ali by aSquared Nutrition: Common Questions

Does Fadogia Agrestis with Tongkat Ali by aSquared Nutrition interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Fadogia Agrestis with Tongkat Ali has a known interaction with 248 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Fadogia Agrestis with Tongkat Ali contains 2 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Is this safe to take while pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. Fadogia agrestis should be avoided in pregnancy and while breastfeeding because there's no safety data. Tongkat Ali should also be avoided in pregnancy due to possible hormonal effects, and while breastfeeding the safety information isn't reliable enough. Talk to your obstetrician or pharmacist before considering it.
What is Fadogia agrestis supposed to do?
It's marketed for athletic performance, erectile dysfunction, and malaria, but the evidence for all three is insufficient — we don't have enough reliable data to say whether it actually works. Additionally, animal studies suggest it may be toxic to your testicles, liver, and kidneys, so caution is needed.
Does Tongkat Ali really improve athletic performance?
The evidence suggests it's possibly ineffective for that use. It does show possibly effective evidence for sexual desire, but not for athletic performance specifically.
Can this product raise my testosterone?
Tongkat Ali may increase testosterone levels — clinical studies show an 8% increase in men with low testosterone. If your levels go beyond normal, that can bring side effects like acne, insulin resistance, and liver injury, so this matters if you're already on testosterone treatment.
Is this safe to take long-term?
The safety data don't support long-term use. Tongkat Ali is generally well tolerated in the short term in studies, but long-term safety is uncertain, and product quality varies. Fadogia agrestis has even less safety data and animal studies suggest possible toxicity to organs.
Will this interfere with my blood pressure medicine?
Yes, if you take propranolol (Inderal). Tongkat Ali can reduce how well propranolol works — a study showed it lowered propranolol levels by about 29%. If you take any blood pressure or heart medication, check with your pharmacist before starting.
