Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Gaba 500 contains one active ingredient: GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), a natural compound in the brain that plays a role in relaxation. Each capsule provides 500 mg.
The capsule itself is vegetarian, and the product contains silicon dioxide as an inactive ingredient.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for GABA supplementation is insufficient to establish whether it works for any condition we have data on — including anxiety, ADHD, athletic performance, and chronic bronchitis. The research available doesn't support a clear effectiveness rating for any of these uses.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Taken orally, GABA appears to be generally well tolerated in the short term, but long-term safety hasn't been well studied. The most common side effects in trial participants were drowsiness, stomach upset, minor throat burning, muscle weakness, and nausea.
One trial participant reported transient amenorrhea (temporary loss of menstrual period) when taking GABA with another supplement. There isn't enough safety information to recommend GABA while breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your blood pressure medications (antihypertensives) with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product — GABA may lower blood pressure further. Also confirm any sedating medications (CNS depressants like sleeping pills or anti-anxiety drugs), as additive drowsiness is possible, though the clinical significance remains unclear.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Gaba 500 is a single-ingredient supplement with insufficient evidence that it works for anxiety, ADHD, athletic performance, or other conditions listed. If you take blood pressure medication or any sedating medication, check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this product — GABA may amplify their effects.
Long-term safety data is limited, so discuss your use with your own healthcare provider.

For each ingredient in Gaba 500 with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
GABA
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, taking GABA with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Some clinical research shows that GABA can decrease blood pressure in patients with hypertension.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, GABA might have additive sedative effects when used in conjunction with CNS depressants. However, it is unclear if this concern is clinically relevant.
Endogenous GABA has well-established relaxant effects and GABA(A) receptors have an established physiological role in sleep. However, the effects of GABA supplements are unclear, as it is unknown whether exogenous GABA crosses the blood-brain barrier. Although there have been limited reports of drowsiness or tiredness with GABA supplements, these effects have not been widely reported in clinical studies. Additionally, intravenous GABA 0.1-1 mg/kg has been shown to induce anxiety in a dose-dependent manner.
