HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Glucomannan + by Wonder Laboratories
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Glucomannan + contains two active ingredients. Glucomannan is a soluble fiber derived from the konjac plant root; it absorbs water in the digestive tract and creates bulk.
Chromium is a mineral that plays a role in how your body uses blood sugar. The product also contains several inactive ingredients — gelatin, vegetable cellulose, vegetable magnesium stearate, and silica — which serve as the capsule shell and flow agents.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
For glucomannan: the data shows it is possibly effective for constipation, type 2 diabetes, and high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia). There is insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for high blood pressure.
For chromium: it is likely effective for chromium deficiency and possibly effective for type 2 diabetes. The evidence suggests it is possibly ineffective for prediabetes (impaired glucose tolerance), schizophrenia, and high blood pressure.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Glucomannan is generally well tolerated when taken with plenty of water, but it can cause abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, and vomiting — especially at doses above 3 grams daily. Rarely, it may cause choking or blockage of the esophagus or intestines if swallowed without enough liquid.
There is not enough safety data during pregnancy, and little is known about safety while breastfeeding; talk with your doctor before using either time. Chromium is generally well tolerated at typical doses, though high or long-term use may carry risks.
The most common side effects are gastrointestinal irritation, headaches, insomnia, and mood changes. Rare serious effects include kidney or liver damage and blood cell disorders.
During pregnancy, small amounts from food or a prenatal vitamin are considered acceptable, but extra chromium supplements should be avoided unless your doctor recommends it. Limited safety data exists for higher doses while breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take insulin or antidiabetes drugs (like glyburide, metformin, or insulin itself) — chromium may lower your blood sugar and increase the risk of hypoglycemia. Also check if you take levothyroxine (Synthroid) or other thyroid medications, since chromium may reduce how much your body absorbs.
NSAIDs, aspirin, and any other oral medications should be reviewed, since glucomannan may slow their absorption.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may help with constipation, blood sugar, or cholesterol, but its interactions with diabetes medications, insulin, levothyroxine, and other drugs make it essential to check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — especially if you have diabetes or take a thyroid medication. If you go ahead, always take glucomannan with plenty of water to avoid blockage.
Talk it over with your healthcare provider to make sure it fits your situation.

Glucomannan + by Wonder Laboratories Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Glucomannan + by Wonder Laboratories contains two active ingredients — glucomannan and chromium — that together interact with a significant number of medications.
The most serious interaction involves chromium with insulin and antidiabetes drugs (antidiabetic agents), both rated Moderate severity; chromium may increase insulin sensitivity and lower blood glucose levels, raising the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Altogether, these interactions span 2,057 individual medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Glucomannan may slow the absorption of oral drugs taken by mouth due to its bulk and thickness; a small study found it reduced blood levels of the diabetes medication glyburide. Chromium also interacts with the thyroid medication levothyroxine (Synthroid), potentially reducing its absorption by up to 17% — a Moderate-severity concern.
Both NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) and aspirin may increase how much chromium your body absorbs, though these are Minor-severity interactions.
If you take any medication — especially diabetes drugs, insulin, levothyroxine, or pain relievers — check your exact medications with the search tool on this page before starting this product.

Glucomannan
Oral Drugs
Theoretically, glucomannan may decrease absorption of drugs taken orally.
Due to its viscosity and bulking effects, there is concern that glucomannan can decrease the absorption of oral drugs. A small clinical study in healthy volunteers shows that taking glyburide 2.5 mg plus glucomannan 3.9 grams with breakfast reduces plasma levels of glyburide when compared with breakfast and glyburide alone. In addition, animal research demonstrates this effect on amoxicillin, but shows increased absorption of metronidazole. This mouse model also demonstrates that metronidazole elimination is prolonged, but amoxicillin elimination is enhanced by 38%; glucomannan may also affect the distribution of some drugs. To avoid changes in absorption, take glucomannan 30-60 minutes after taking oral drugs.
Chromium
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chromium may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research shows that taking chromium might lower blood glucose levels, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Insulin
Theoretically, concomitant use of chromium and insulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In clinical research, chromium has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity,
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Chromium might bind levothyroxine in the intestinal tract and decrease levothyroxine absorption.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that taking chromium picolinate 1000 mcg with levothyroxine 1 mg decreases serum levels of levothyroxine by 17% when compared to taking levothyroxine alone. Advise patients to take levothyroxine at least 30 minutes before or 3-4 hours after taking chromium.
Aspirin
Theoretically, aspirin might increase chromium absorption.
Animal research suggests that aspirin may increase chromium absorption and chromium levels in the blood.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Nsaids)
NSAIDs might increase chromium levels in the body.
Drugs that are prostaglandin inhibitors, such as NSAIDs, seem to increase chromium absorption and retention.
