Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: glucomannan, a soluble fiber from konjac root. It works by absorbing water in your digestive tract, which helps bulk up stool and supports regularity.
The capsule itself is made with gelatin and water as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Glucomannan is possibly effective for constipation, diabetes support, and high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia). The evidence is stronger for constipation and cholesterol than for blood sugar control, though it shows promise for all three.
For high blood pressure, there isn't enough reliable evidence yet to rate how well it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Glucomannan is generally well tolerated when you take it with plenty of water or other liquid. The most common side effects are mild stomach discomfort, bloating, gas, diarrhea, nausea, and constipation — especially at higher doses (more than 3 grams a day).
Rare but serious risks include choking and blockage of your esophagus or intestines, particularly if you swallow it dry or without enough fluid. There isn't enough reliable safety data to know whether it's safe during pregnancy, so talk with your doctor before using it then.
Little is known about safety while breastfeeding, so caution is advised if you're nursing — check with your healthcare provider for personalized guidance.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking glucomannan, check any oral medications you use — especially diabetes drugs like glyburide. Its moderate interaction can reduce how much of your drug your body absorbs.
Have your pharmacist confirm the exact medications you take and help you time them safely with this product.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Glucomannan may help with constipation, cholesterol, or blood sugar if the evidence holds for your situation — but its ability to slow how your body absorbs oral medications makes it important to check your exact drugs before you start. Take it with plenty of water and separate it from your other medications by at least a couple of hours.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about the best timing for your routine.

Glucomannan (Konjac Root) 450 mg by TerraVita Premium Collection Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Glucomannan by TerraVita Premium Collection can interact with oral medications.
Its main concern is that it may slow how your body absorbs drugs you take by mouth — a moderate interaction affecting how well those medications work.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The evidence comes from a study showing that glucomannan reduced blood levels of glyburide, a diabetes medication, when taken together at breakfast. Because glucomannan is thick and bulky, it can coat your digestive tract and get in the way of drug absorption.
Altogether, these interactions span 2,023 individual medications.
If you take any prescription or over-the-counter oral medication — whether for diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol, or anything else — you'll want to check your exact drugs with the tool on this page before starting glucomannan. The safest approach is to separate them by at least 2 hours: take your medications first, then glucomannan later, or ask your doctor or pharmacist how to time them for your situation.

Glucomannan
Oral Drugs
Theoretically, glucomannan may decrease absorption of drugs taken orally.
Due to its viscosity and bulking effects, there is concern that glucomannan can decrease the absorption of oral drugs. A small clinical study in healthy volunteers shows that taking glyburide 2.5 mg plus glucomannan 3.9 grams with breakfast reduces plasma levels of glyburide when compared with breakfast and glyburide alone. In addition, animal research demonstrates this effect on amoxicillin, but shows increased absorption of metronidazole. This mouse model also demonstrates that metronidazole elimination is prolonged, but amoxicillin elimination is enhanced by 38%; glucomannan may also affect the distribution of some drugs. To avoid changes in absorption, take glucomannan 30-60 minutes after taking oral drugs.
