Strong evidence
Lactase in this product is effective for lactose intolerance—the inability to digest lactose comfortably. The evidence for lactase in premature infants and colic is insufficient to rate.

How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactase is generally well tolerated when used as directed. A rare case of contact dermatitis and allergic rhinoconjunctivitis to powdered lactase has been reported in occupational exposure; if you're allergic to lactase itself, this product isn't for you.
The protease enzymes are generally well tolerated for most adults but may cause digestive upset or allergic reactions in some people. Rarely, occupational exposure to airborne protease enzymes has caused allergic rhinoconjunctivitis or asthma.
During pregnancy, lactase is likely safe, though check with your doctor before regular use. Protease safety has not been established in pregnancy, so it's best avoided unless prescribed by your doctor.
For breastfeeding, there is little safety data for protease, so use is not recommended without medical advice first.
