Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product is a single-ingredient supplement: desiccated (dried) beef liver powder at 750 mg per capsule. Beef liver is nutrient-dense and contains vitamins, minerals, and amino acids in their natural food form.

The capsule itself is made from vegetable cellulose, with rice powder and silica as inactive ingredients.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Liver Extract product and its label doesn't state a use — see Liver Extract's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence on beef liver for chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is rated possibly ineffective — meaning the research suggests it's unlikely to help with that condition. For hepatitis C, we don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works or doesn't.

If you're considering this product for a specific health reason, talk with your pharmacist about what the actual evidence shows.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

No adverse reactions have been reported, but a full safety evaluation hasn't been done. The main caution is that liver products deliver very high levels of vitamin A and iron — both of which can be harmful in excess.

There's also a quality concern: liver extract comes from raw animal liver from slaughterhouses, and there's a theoretical risk of contamination, including from bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE, or mad cow disease) if the liver comes from countries where BSE has been found. No cases of BSE transmission from liver extract products have been reported, but until more is known, you should check the source country on the label.

Pregnant people should avoid this product unless their doctor advises otherwise, because the high vitamin A content may harm a developing baby. Safety in breastfeeding hasn't been well studied — talk with your doctor before using if you're nursing.

Meds to double-check

Minor interactions only
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Minor only

Only Minor-severity interactions are documented for these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Liver Extract.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Minor.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 3 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take warfarin (blood thinner), check before starting — the variable vitamin K content could reduce its effect. If you're on iron supplements or iron-containing medications, do the same — adding this product could push your iron intake too high.

Use the medication checker on this page to verify your exact drugs.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.

Beef liver is a nutrient-dense whole food, but this supplement delivers concentrated amounts of vitamin A and iron that need careful attention. If you take warfarin or iron supplements, or if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, talk with your pharmacist before starting.

Check the label for the country of origin to make sure it's from a region with good food-safety standards.

Iron

Liver extract can contain heme iron. Taking liver extract with iron-containing medications or supplements may increase total iron intake and could increase the risk of gastrointestinal adverse effects or excessive iron accumulation. The risk is greater with high doses, prolonged use, or in individuals with hemochromatosis or another iron-overload disorder. Review the iron content of the liver extract and the total elemental iron dose. Avoid unnecessary duplicate iron supplementation and consider monitoring ferritin and transferrin saturation when clinically appropriate.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Warfarin (Coumadin)

Liver extract products may contain small and variable amounts of vitamin K. Theoretically, starting, stopping, or substantially changing the amount of liver extract used could reduce the anticoagulant effect of warfarin and lower the INR. However, this interaction has not been directly studied or reported in humans, and the vitamin K content of liver extract products is generally not standardized. Consider monitoring the INR after a meaningful change in liver extract use.
