Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 2 of its 2 active ingredients.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Grassfed Prostate contains 2 active ingredients: liver extract and prostate extract. Liver extract is included as a concentrated source of nutrients from organ tissue.

The product also contains gelatin, an inactive ingredient used to form the capsule.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Liver Extract's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: prostate and liver support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Hepatitis C, prostate health, benign prostatic hyperplasia, urinary function.
  • The closest evidence on file: Liver Extract is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Hepatitis C (Natural Medicines).

The evidence for liver extract in chronic fatigue syndrome is rated as possibly ineffective — meaning the data doesn't support it for that use. For hepatitis C, we don't have enough reliable evidence to rate whether it works.

We hold no effectiveness data for the prostate extract ingredient.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

No adverse reactions have been officially reported for liver extract, though a full safety evaluation hasn't been done. There are two concerns worth knowing about.

First, liver products can deliver very high levels of vitamin A, which could harm a developing baby — so the safety data advises against use in pregnancy unless your doctor specifically recommends it. Second, because liver extract comes from raw animal liver sourced at slaughterhouses, there's a theoretical risk of contamination from sick animals or, in rare cases, from bovine spongiform encephalitis (BSE) if the cows came from countries where BSE has occurred.

No cases of BSE transfer from liver extract to humans have been reported to date, but it remains a source-quality consideration. For the prostate extract ingredient, safety data hasn't been well studied — talk with your doctor before using if you have concerns.

Minor interactions only
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Minor only

Only Minor-severity interactions are documented for these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Liver Extract.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Minor.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 3 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take warfarin (Coumadin) or any blood thinner, warfarin needs a closer look — the vitamin K in liver extract could reduce how well it works. Also check if you're on iron supplements or iron-containing medications, as the heme iron in liver extract may add to your total iron intake.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.

This product may appeal to people interested in organ-based nutrition, but it's not established to work for chronic fatigue or hepatitis C. If you take warfarin or iron supplements, check with your pharmacist first — the liver extract could interfere.

Pregnant women should avoid it unless their doctor says otherwise because of the vitamin A content. Talk to your pharmacist about whether this product fits your health goals.

General Statements

For most of human history, we consumed the whole animal (nose-to-tail) with deep respect and profound purpose. For instance, Native Americans and early ancestral healers believed that eating the organs from a healthy animal would strengthen and support the health of the corresponding organ of the individual--- also known as "like supports like." The traditional way of treating a person with a weak heart was to feed the person the heart of a healthy animal. Since we've abandoned these ways, the modern world has left us malnourished with an epidemic of declining health. The solution is to find ways to recreate our ancestral environment (sleep, nourishment, movement, sunshine, etc). It’s time we honor our ancestors by putting back in, what the modern world has left out (to return our people back to strength, health and happiness). We walk our talk and we offer a one-of-a-kind "guided" experience. Learn more at www.ancestralsupplements.com Brain Johnson "Liver King"

Iron

Liver extract can contain heme iron. Taking liver extract with iron-containing medications or supplements may increase total iron intake and could increase the risk of gastrointestinal adverse effects or excessive iron accumulation. The risk is greater with high doses, prolonged use, or in individuals with hemochromatosis or another iron-overload disorder. Review the iron content of the liver extract and the total elemental iron dose. Avoid unnecessary duplicate iron supplementation and consider monitoring ferritin and transferrin saturation when clinically appropriate.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Warfarin (Coumadin)

Liver extract products may contain small and variable amounts of vitamin K. Theoretically, starting, stopping, or substantially changing the amount of liver extract used could reduce the anticoagulant effect of warfarin and lower the INR. However, this interaction has not been directly studied or reported in humans, and the vitamin K content of liver extract products is generally not standardized. Consider monitoring the INR after a meaningful change in liver extract use.

Grassfed Prostate by Ancestral Supplements: Common Questions

Does Grassfed Prostate by Ancestral Supplements interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Grassfed Prostate has a known interaction with 3 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Grassfed Prostate contains 2 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
Liver extract can contain very high levels of vitamin A, which may harm a developing baby. The safety data advises against using it in pregnancy unless your doctor specifically recommends it. Safety during breastfeeding hasn't been well studied — talk with your doctor before using.
Does this product have any reported side effects?
No adverse reactions have been officially reported, but a thorough safety evaluation hasn't been completed. The main concerns are source quality — liver extract comes from raw animal liver at slaughterhouses, so there's a small theoretical risk of contamination from sick animals or, in rare cases, from BSE (a disease in cows). No cases of BSE transfer to humans from liver extract products have been reported.
What is liver extract supposed to do?
Liver extract is included as a concentrated source of nutrients from organ tissue. The evidence doesn't support it for chronic fatigue, and we don't have enough reliable data to say whether it works for hepatitis C. Talk with your pharmacist about what you're hoping it will help with.
What's the difference between this product and a regular multivitamin?
This product focuses on liver and prostate extracts from animal organs, whereas a multivitamin contains a broader range of isolated vitamins and minerals. Organ extracts deliver a whole-food nutrient profile, but liver extract in particular can carry very high vitamin A levels and source-quality concerns that a standard multivitamin typically avoids.
Is there anything in this capsule besides the active ingredients?
Yes — the capsule itself is made of gelatin, which is an inactive ingredient used to hold and deliver the active ingredients. It doesn't have a therapeutic effect.
