Guggul is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth, but digestive upset is common. You may experience belching, bloating, diarrhea, nausea, headache, or an unpleasant taste.

Skin reactions—ranging from mild itching to rashes and swelling—can occur, and the risk increases with higher doses. A rare but serious effect, rhabdomyolysis (severe muscle breakdown), has been reported.
