What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product contains 6 active ingredients in a proprietary blend: bitter melon fruit extract, astragalus root extract, water plantain root extract, crinum latifolium leaf extract, papaya leaf extract, and Chinese skullcap leaf extract. The blend is encapsulated with hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, microcrystalline cellulose, and L-leucine as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Insufficient evidence
The evidence isn't established in the data we hold for any of the conditions this product targets. Bitter melon, astragalus, papaya leaf, and Chinese skullcap all carry ratings of insufficient reliable evidence for their traditional uses — whether that's amenorrhea, athletic performance, liver disease, diabetes, prostate cancer, anxiety, or other claims.
This doesn't mean they don't work; it means well-designed human studies haven't confirmed their effects yet.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Bitter melon is generally well tolerated when used as a food but may lower blood sugar and cause stomach upset in supplement amounts. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal — heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, flatulence, and abdominal discomfort, reported in about 3% to 16% of people taking it.
Astragalus is generally well tolerated short-term in healthy adults, though human safety data are limited; dizziness and palpitations have been reported rarely. Papaya leaf extract is generally well tolerated; nausea and vomiting are the most common reported effects.
Chinese skullcap seems well tolerated but has limited human safety data; abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting have been reported. Regarding pregnancy and breastfeeding: bitter melon, astragalus, and Chinese skullcap should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to insufficient safety data — some sources caution that bitter melon seeds and high doses may cause harmful effects.
Papaya has mixed ratings; unripe papaya, papaya latex, and seeds should be avoided during pregnancy, though ripe fruit is considered likely safe.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take antidiabetes drugs (bitter melon, astragalus, and Chinese skullcap may lower blood sugar further), blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (papaya and Chinese skullcap may increase bleeding risk), antihypertensive drugs (Chinese skullcap may lower blood pressure further), pazopanib for cancer (bitter melon may increase levels and serious side effects), warfarin for clotting (papaya may increase its effects), amiodarone for heart rhythm (papaya may increase levels), levothyroxine for thyroid (papaya may reduce its effects), immunosuppressants (astragalus may interfere), lithium for mood (astragalus and Chinese skullcap may increase levels), or drugs processed by liver enzymes CYP2C19 or CYP1A2 (Chinese skullcap may increase their levels). No interactions are documented for water plantain or crinum latifolium, as we hold no data for these ingredients.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with insufficient evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product is a multi-ingredient botanical blend aimed at prostate and ovary support, but the evidence for its effects isn't established. More importantly, if you take any medications — especially for diabetes, high blood pressure, blood clotting, thyroid function, heart rhythm, cancer, or mood — you need to check your specific drugs against the interaction data before starting.
Talk with your own doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you and whether it's safe to combine with what you're already taking.

For each ingredient in Healthy Prostate & Ovary with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Chinese Skullcap (leaf) extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, Baikal skullcap might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs.
Preliminary clinical research suggests that taking capsules containing a combination of astragalus, goldthread, and Baikal skullcap daily for 4 weeks inhibits platelet aggregation; the effect seems to be similar to that of aspirin 50 mg daily. It is unclear if this effect is due to Baikal skullcap, other ingredients, or the combination.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use of Baikal skullcap with antidiabetes drugs might enhance blood glucose lowering effects.
Baicalein, a constituent of Baikal skullcap, has alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activity in vitro. Animal research also suggests that Baikal skullcap enhances the antidiabetic effects of metformin. However, in a small human study, taking Baikal skullcap extract did not enhance the antidiabetic effects of metformin, although it did modestly lower glucose levels during an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). Until more is known, use cautiously.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use of Baikal skullcap with antihypertensive drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that baicalein, a constituent of Baikal skullcap, might lower blood pressure.
Antithyroid Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use of Baikal skullcap and antithyroid drugs may result in additive activity and increase the risk of hypothyroidism.
In an animal hyperthyroid model, Baikal skullcap improved levels of triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). The clinical significance of this effect is unclear.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, Baikal skullcap may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 enzymes.
In vitro evidence suggests that constituents of Baikal skullcap inhibit the activity of CYP1A2. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2C19 (Cyp2C19) Substrates
Theoretically, Baikal skullcap might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C19 enzymes.
In vitro evidence suggest that wogonin, a constituent of Baikal skullcap, modestly inhibits the activity of CYP2C19 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Estrogens
Theoretically, concomitant use of large amounts of Baikal skullcap might interfere with hormone replacement therapy, due to competition for estrogen receptors.
In vitro evidence suggests that Baikal skullcap has estrogenic activity.
Lithium
Theoretically, Baikal skullcap might reduce lithium excretion and increase serum levels of lithium.
Baikal skullcap is thought to have diuretic properties, which may reduce lithium excretion. The dose of lithium might need to be decreased.
Alcohol (Ethanol)
Theoretically, Baikal skullcap might potentiate the sedative effects of alcohol.
In vitro and animal research suggests that Baikal skullcap binds to GABA-A receptors and causes sedation. Theoretically, Baikal skullcap might potentiate the sedative effects of alcohol. Preliminary clinical research has not identified clinically relevant sedation after use of Baikal skullcap; however, a thorough evaluation of safety outcomes has not been conducted.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, Baikal skullcap might cause additive therapeutic and adverse effects when used concomitantly with drugs with sedative properties.
In vitro and animal research suggests that Baikal skullcap binds to GABA-A receptors and causes sedation. Theoretically, Baikal skullcap might cause additive therapeutic and adverse effects when used concomitantly with drugs with sedative properties. Preliminary clinical research has not identified clinically relevant sedation after use of Baikal skullcap; however, a thorough evaluation of safety outcomes has not been conducted.
Organic Anion-Transporting Polypeptide Substrates (Oatp)
Theoretically, Baikal skullcap might alter the levels and clinical effects of OATP substrates.
Some pharmacokinetic research shows that baicalin, a constituent of Baikal skullcap, can decrease plasma levels of rosuvastatin. The mechanism is thought to involve stimulation of the activity of the organic anion-transporting polypeptide 1B1 (OATP1B1), which transports rosuvastatin into the liver. This decreases plasma levels of the drug, but increases levels at the site of action in the liver. The degree to which rosuvastatin levels are affected depends on the OATP1B1 haplotype of the individual. Baikal skullcap might also affect other OATP1B1 substrates.
P-Glycoprotein Substrates
Theoretically, Baikal skullcap might increase levels of drugs transported by P-glycoprotein.
In vitro and animal research suggests that baicalein, oroxylin A, and wogonin, constituents of Baikal skullcap, can inhibit P-glycoprotein. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Bitter Melon (fruit) extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Taking bitter melon with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Bitter melon can lower blood glucose levels and might have additive effects when used with antidiabetes drugs. This might increase the risk of hypoglycemia in some patients. Monitor blood glucose levels closely.
P-Glycoprotein Substrates
Theoretically, bitter melon might increase levels of P-glycoprotein substrates.
Bitter melon might inhibit the p-glycoprotein (P-gp) intestinal pump and increase intracellular levels of P-gp substrates. In vitro research in intestinal cells shows that 1-monopalmitin, a constituent of bitter melon, increases levels of daunomycin, a P-gp substrate. Additionally, drinking bitter melon juice has been associated with a case of acute pancreatitis in a patient who had been taking pazopanib, a P-gp substrate, for 8 years. Researchers theorize that inhibition of P-gp led to increased levels of pazopanib, resulting in pazopanib-induced pancreatitis.
Pazopanib (Votrient)
Theoretically, bitter melon might increase levels of pazopanib, potentially increasing the risk of adverse effects.
In one case, a 65-year-old patient taking pazopanib for 8 years for renal cell carcinoma experienced signs and symptoms consistent with acute pancreatitis 4 days after drinking bitter melon juice at a dose of 100-150 mL daily. The patient's symptoms, amylase levels, and lipase levels improved upon discontinuation of bitter melon and pazopanib. Pazopanib treatment was re-initiated with no further evidence of pancreatitis. Researchers theorize that inhibition of P-glycoprotein by bitter melon led to increased levels of pazopanib, a P-glycoprotein substrate, resulting in pazopanib-induced pancreatitis.
Astragalus (root) extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking astragalus with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Clinical research in humans shows that astragalus might have hypoglycemic effects. Theoretically, taking astragalus, especially in combination with other hypoglycemic agents, might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Cyclophosphamide
Theoretically, astragalus might interfere with cyclophosphamide therapy.
Evidence regarding the effect of astragalus on immunosuppression caused by cyclophosphamide is conflicting. Some animal research suggests that astragalus reverses cyclophosphamide-induced immunosuppression. However, other animal research shows no effect.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, astragalus might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
Astragalus seems to stimulate immune function. Theoretically, taking astragalus might decrease the effects of immunosuppressive therapy.
Lithium
Theoretically, astragalus might increase levels and adverse effects of lithium.
Animal research suggests that astragalus has diuretic properties. Theoretically, due to this diuretic effect, astragalus might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Papaya (leaf) extract
Amiodarone (Cordarone)
Theoretically, papaya extract may increase the levels and clinical effects of amiodarone.
Animal research in rats shows that a single oral dose of papaya extract, as well as multiple doses of papaya extract daily over 14 days, prior to a single dose of amiodarone delays the time to maximum amiodarone concentration. However, only the 14-day papaya extract regimen increases systemic amiodarone exposure by 60% to 70%. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Concomitant use of antidiabetic drugs with fermented papaya can produce additive effects. It is unclear if other forms of papaya have the same effect.
A small low-quality clinical study in patients with type 2 diabetes who are taking glibenclamide shows that taking a fermented papaya preparation 3 grams daily for 2 months decreases fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels when compared to baseline. Additionally, of the 25 patients in the study, 9 required a reduction in glibenclamide dose.
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Theoretically, consuming large quantities of papaya fruit can reduce the clinical effects of levothyroxine.
In one case-report, a 37-year-old male with a history of thyroidectomy who was stabilized on levothyroxine for 5 years presented with hypothyroidism after consuming 5-6 papaya fruits daily for 14 days during vacation. In a controlled re-challenge test involving 5-6 papayas daily, the patient remained euthyroid for 7 days, but developed mild hypothyroidism after 14 days. Both times, thyroid levels normalized 40-45 days after discontinuing papaya.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, concomitant use of warfarin with papain-containing papaya extract might increase the effects and side effects of warfarin.
In one case report, a patient previously stable on warfarin was found to have an international normalization ratio (INR) of 7.4, which was attributed to ingestion of a supplement containing papain from papaya extract.
