What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: biotin, a water-soluble B vitamin at 5 mg per capsule. Biotin plays a role in hair, skin, and nail health, and in energy metabolism.
The capsule itself is made of cellulose.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Biotin is likely effective for biotin deficiency — a genuine shortage of the vitamin in your body. For multiple sclerosis and seborrheic dermatitis (a flaky, inflamed scalp condition), the evidence suggests it's possibly ineffective.
For alopecia areata (patchy hair loss), there isn't enough reliable evidence yet to rate how well it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Biotin is generally well tolerated, even at fairly high doses, because your body excretes excess amounts in urine. High-dose biotin has rarely been linked to mild diarrhea; one case described mild diarrhea in patients taking 300 mg daily.
A single case report mentioned a patient taking 10 mg biotin alongside other supplements who developed an inflammatory reaction, but it's unclear whether biotin was the cause. Amounts from food and normal supplement doses are considered appropriate; if you're considering high-dose biotin, talk with your doctor first.
Meds to double-check
