What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: holy basil, 450 mg per capsule. Holy basil is an herb from the mint family traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine.
The capsule itself is made from gelatin and water (inactive ingredients that serve as the capsule shell).
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence on holy basil for its common uses isn't established in the data we hold. The facts we have rate it as having insufficient reliable evidence to rate for generalized anxiety disorder, asthma, headache, respiratory tract infections, dental plaque, and diabetes.
That doesn't mean it doesn't work—it means the high-quality studies that would prove it either way haven't been done yet or aren't conclusive.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Holy basil extract is generally well tolerated over the short term in adults, but long-term safety data are limited. The most common side effects taken by mouth are loose stools and nausea—a small number of trial participants in one study reported these.
However, the safety data advise against use during pregnancy and breastfeeding; animal studies raise concerns and human safety hasn't been established for either one.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (such as warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel), any diabetes medication, or pentobarbital (Nembutal). These have documented Moderate interactions with holy basil.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Holy Basil 450 mg may be worth considering if you're interested in herbal remedies and have cleared it with your own doctor or pharmacist—especially important here because of the interactions with blood thinners, diabetes drugs, and sedatives. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking any of those medication types, talk it over with your healthcare provider first.

Holy Basil 450 mg by TerraVita Premium Collection Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Holy Basil 450 mg by TerraVita Premium Collection has documented interactions with several medication types.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (such as warfarin, aspirin, and clopidogrel): holy basil seed oil may theoretically increase bleeding risk by prolonging bleeding time, though this effect has only been shown in animals so far.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Holy basil may also increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when taken alongside diabetes medications. Small clinical studies show that holy basil can lower fasting blood glucose levels in people with type 2 diabetes, so the combination could push blood sugar too low.
Additionally, if you take pentobarbital (Nembutal), a barbiturate sedative, holy basil seed oil might strengthen its sedative effects—again based on animal data, not confirmed in humans.
Altogether, these interactions span 212 individual medications. Before you start this supplement, run your exact medications through the interaction checker below—especially if you take any blood thinner, diabetes drug, or sedative.
