What’s inside

Full disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Full

Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 4 of its 4 active ingredients.
  • “BioCell Collagen” is listed as a grouped ingredient — the label gives one combined amount (900 mg) without saying how much of each component you get.

This 4-ingredient product combines chondroitin sulfate, hyaluronic acid, hydrolyzed collagen type II, and methylsulfonyl methane (MSM). Chondroitin and collagen are structural proteins meant to support joints and connective tissue; hyaluronic acid is a compound that holds water and is used for skin and eye moisture; MSM is a sulfur-containing compound sometimes marketed for joint and skin health.

The capsule also contains inactive ingredients: hypromellose, rice flour, and magnesium stearate.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: joint and skin health support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Joint pain, Knee pain, Osteoarthritis, Dry eye, Dry skin, Wound healing — and 4 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Chondroitin Sulfate is rated "Possibly Effective" for Osteoarthritis (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Hyaluronic Acid is rated "Possibly Effective" for Dry eye.
  • Also on file: Collagen Peptides is rated "Possibly Effective" for Aging skin, Dry skin.

The evidence for this product's ingredients is mixed. Chondroitin sulfate is possibly effective for osteoarthritis and cataracts, but the data on aging skin and bone health is insufficient.

Hyaluronic acid is possibly effective for dry eyes and venous leg ulcers, but again, evidence for aging skin is insufficient. Hydrolyzed collagen type II is possibly effective for aging skin and dry skin, but rated possibly ineffective for muscle strength.

We hold no effectiveness data for MSM in our records.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 3 of the 3 matched ingredients.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 3 of 3.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 3 of 3.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Chondroitin sulfate is generally well tolerated for short-term use, though quality varies and benefits are uncertain. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal — abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, heartburn, and nausea — and skin reactions including eyelid or limb swelling, hair loss, and rash have been reported.

Rare cases of liver damage and asthma worsening have occurred, usually with chondroitin-glucosamine combinations. Hyaluronic acid and collagen peptides are generally well tolerated; collagen may occasionally cause nausea, upset stomach, diarrhea, or gas, but these are uncommon.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 3 matched ingredients can interact with medications — Chondroitin Sulfate.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 2 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take warfarin (Coumadin) or any blood thinner, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — chondroitin may increase how thin your blood gets. We could not check methylsulfonyl methane (MSM) for interactions, so mention this product by name to your pharmacist if you take other medications.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

This product may appeal to you if you're interested in joint, skin, or eye support, but the evidence is unproven for many uses. If you take warfarin or any blood thinner, do not start this product without checking with your doctor or pharmacist first — chondroitin can increase your blood-thinner's effect.

Talk it over with your own healthcare provider before adding it to your routine, especially if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or take any medications.

Formula

Hyaluronic Acid functions as a "space filler," providing moisture-filled cushioning between cells, which is vital in the production and maintenance of collagen and cartilage. MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) is an organic source of sulfur, a mineral necessary for the production of collagen, the main structural component of cartilage and connective tissue. BioCell Collagen is multi-patented, scientifically substantiated ingredient that promotes active joints, youthful looking skin, and healthy connective tissues.

Hyaluronic Acid with BioCell Collagen & MSM by Nature's Lab: Common Questions

Does Hyaluronic Acid with BioCell Collagen & MSM by Nature's Lab interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Hyaluronic Acid with BioCell Collagen & MSM has a known interaction with 2 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Hyaluronic Acid with BioCell Collagen & MSM contains 2 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this while on warfarin?
Not without checking with your doctor or pharmacist first. Chondroitin in this product may boost warfarin's blood-thinning effect and raise your clotting time, which can be serious. Your doctor can decide if it's safe for you or if you need monitoring.
Will this help my aging skin?
Collagen peptides in this product are possibly effective for aging skin, but the evidence for hyaluronic acid and chondroitin on skin aging is insufficient — the data just isn't strong enough to say. Results vary by person.
Is this safe to take while pregnant?
No — chondroitin has not been studied enough in pregnancy and the safety data advises against it. Hyaluronic acid and collagen also lack enough data to say they're safe. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking any supplement during pregnancy.
Can I take this while breastfeeding?
Chondroitin sulfate is not recommended during breastfeeding due to insufficient safety data. Hyaluronic acid and collagen peptides also have limited or no data on breastfeeding safety. Check with your doctor or pharmacist to see if it's right for you.
What are the most common side effects?
From chondroitin, you might experience stomach upset, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, heartburn, or nausea. Skin reactions like swelling, rash, or hair loss have been reported. Collagen peptides rarely cause nausea, indigestion, or gas.
Does this product contain any fillers?
Yes — it contains three inactive ingredients: hypromellose, rice flour, and magnesium stearate. These are excipients used to make the capsule and deliver the active ingredients.
