What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: L-glutathione, a compound your body naturally produces that plays a role in cell protection and detoxification. The capsule also contains gelatin and rice powder as inactive ingredients (binders and fillers).
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for L-glutathione is mixed and depends on what you're taking it for. It's rated possibly effective for reducing nerve damage (neurotoxicity) caused by the chemotherapy drug cisplatin.
For other uses — including nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, Alzheimer disease, athletic performance, and cataracts — the evidence we have isn't reliable enough to rate it one way or the other.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Oral L-glutathione appears generally well tolerated in the short term, but we don't have enough long-term safety data on oral forms, or on inhaled or IV forms, to say more. One important note: if you have asthma and use inhaled glutathione, it can narrow your airways and cause shortness of breath or cough — oral capsules don't carry that risk.
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, there isn't enough reliable safety information, so the data advises against it unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
Meds to double-check
No known interactions
No interactions are documented in our data for L-glutathione. However, it's still smart to confirm with your doctor or pharmacist that it won't affect any medications you're currently taking.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.
L-glutathione may be worth considering if you're dealing with cisplatin-related nerve damage or curious about its effects on liver health or cognitive function — but the evidence for most uses is still being built. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or have asthma, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
No medication interactions are documented, but check with your own healthcare provider before combining it with your current medications.
