What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: L-Lysine, an amino acid your body needs for various functions including immune support and connective tissue health. The capsule itself includes cellulose and a rice extract blend as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
L-Lysine is possibly effective for cold sores (herpes labialis). The evidence for its use in child growth, pressure ulcers, and diabetic foot ulcers is not yet established in the data we hold.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-Lysine is generally well tolerated at typical doses. At higher amounts, it may cause stomach upset, including abdominal pain, diarrhea, and indigestion.
Long-term safety of high-dose supplementation hasn't been well studied. There is one case report of oral lysine linked to kidney inflammation that progressed to chronic kidney failure, though this is rare.
Supplement safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not well studied — lysine from food is fine, but if you're pregnant or nursing, talk with your doctor before taking a supplement.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you take 5-HT4 agonists (medications for certain digestive or bowel conditions), let your pharmacist know before starting this product — lysine may reduce how well they work.
