HelloPharmacist Scorecard of L-Tyrosine 500 mg by Klaire Labs
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: L-tyrosine, an amino acid your body uses to make neurotransmitters and thyroid hormones. The capsule also contains several inactive ingredients—L-leucine, microcrystalline cellulose, and silicon dioxide—which are there to fill and stabilize the capsule.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
L-tyrosine is effective for phenylketonuria (PKU), a rare genetic condition where the body can't process phenylalanine. For cognitive function and memory, the evidence suggests it may be helpful, though the data is limited.
Athletic performance and alcohol use disorder don't have sufficient evidence to rate tyrosine's usefulness, and dementia research is similarly inconclusive.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Tyrosine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults at typical doses. The most common side effects in trials were fatigue, headache, heartburn, and nausea.
At much larger doses (much higher than this 500 mg capsule), headache and fatigue increase; combining it with other supplements or drugs can also raise the risk of stomach upset or drowsiness. There isn't enough safety data to recommend regular supplemental use without your doctor's input, and breastfeeding safety data is similarly limited—talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check before starting if you take levodopa (a Parkinson's drug)—tyrosine may reduce its effectiveness, and separating the doses by 2 hours can help. Also verify any thyroid hormone medications you're on, since tyrosine could add to their effects.
If you're unsure whether your medications interact, use the checker on this page with your exact drug list.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This single-ingredient supplement may help with cognitive function and memory if the research applies to you, and it's generally tolerated well at standard doses. If you take levodopa or thyroid medication, or if you're pregnant, nursing, or considering regular use, check with your own doctor or pharmacist first to make sure it's right for you.

L-Tyrosine 500 mg by Klaire Labs Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Klaire Labs L-Tyrosine 500 mg interacts with two medication types through its single active ingredient.
The most serious concern is with levodopa (a Parkinson's medication), where tyrosine may reduce how well the drug works. Tyrosine and levodopa compete for absorption in your small intestine, so separating doses by at least 2 hours can help minimize this effect.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Thyroid hormone medications (Moderate severity) may have additive effects when combined with tyrosine, since tyrosine is a building block your body uses to make thyroid hormones and could theoretically increase thyroid hormone levels. Altogether, these interactions span 21 individual medications.
If you take levodopa, thyroid medication, or anything else regularly, run your exact drugs through the checker below before starting this supplement.

L-Tyrosine
Levodopa
Theoretically, tyrosine might decrease the effectiveness of levodopa.
Tyrosine and levodopa compete for absorption in the proximal duodenum by the large neutral amino acid (LNAA) transport system. Advise patients to separate doses of tyrosine and levodopa by at least 2 hours.
Thyroid Hormone
Theoretically, tyrosine might have additive effects with thyroid hormone medications.
Tyrosine is a precursor to thyroxine and might increase levels of thyroid hormones.
