Here's the idea behind this pairing. Your body uses tyrosine as one of the building blocks to make its own thyroid hormone. Desiccated thyroid extract (like Westhroid or WP Thyroid) already gives you a dose of thyroid hormone, so the worry is that adding tyrosine might nudge your thyroid activity a little higher on top of your medication.

I want to be honest with you though: this is a theoretical concern based on how things work on paper, not something well documented in real people. If it did add up, you could in theory see more signs of having too much thyroid hormone, things like a racing or pounding heart, feeling jittery, trouble sleeping, sweating, or unwanted weight loss. Since thyroid dosing is fine-tuned, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before starting tyrosine.
