What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains 1 active ingredient: Bioferrin Lactoferrin, a protein naturally found in milk and other body fluids. The capsule itself is made from hypromellose (a plant-based film), with cellulose, silica, and magnesium stearate as inactive ingredients to bind and fill the capsule.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for lactoferrin is mixed and limited. It's possibly effective for sepsis and pregnancy-related iron deficiency, but it's been rated likely ineffective for reducing fetal and premature infant mortality and for necrotizing enterocolitis (a serious intestinal condition in newborns).
For other uses, effectiveness data aren't established in what we hold.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactoferrin is generally well tolerated at typical doses when taken by mouth, though long-term safety data are limited. At much higher doses (7.2 grams daily—far above this 250 mg capsule), constipation, diarrhea, loss of appetite, fatigue, and chills have been reported.
In pregnancy, some studies exist but safety isn't fully established; use only under medical supervision. While lactoferrin occurs naturally in breast milk, the safety of supplements while breastfeeding hasn't been well studied.
Meds to double-check
