What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Lavender against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: certified organic lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) as a dried herb liquid extract. The menstruum (the liquid used to extract the herb) is listed as an inactive ingredient.
Lavender has been traditionally used for relaxation and sleep, and it's the subject of several clinical studies examining its effects on anxiety, pain, and hair loss, though the evidence for those uses varies.
Does it work?
Insufficient evidence
The evidence for lavender's effectiveness is mixed. It's rated possibly effective for dysmenorrhea (painful periods).
For cancer-related pain, it's rated possibly ineffective. For alopecia areata (patchy hair loss), pre-procedural anxiety, and cancer-related fatigue, there isn't enough reliable evidence to make a rating.
If you're considering lavender for any of these uses, talk with your doctor about whether the current evidence supports it for your situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lavender taken by mouth in food amounts and larger medicinal amounts is generally well tolerated. The most common side effects are breath odor, constipation, diarrhea, stomach upset, belching, headache, and nausea.
Topically, lavender oil is usually well tolerated, though allergic skin reactions can occur. Rare cases of enlarged breast tissue have been reported in young boys using lavender oil.
Because safety data is limited for medicinal amounts, don't use this product in therapeutic doses without your doctor's approval. The essential oil is toxic if swallowed, so this liquid extract should be used only as directed.
If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, there isn't enough data to know whether medicinal lavender is safe—talk with your doctor or pharmacist before use.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take any CNS depressants—medications that slow your brain and nervous system, such as sedatives, sleep aids, anti-anxiety drugs, pain relievers, or muscle relaxants. Lavender may intensify both their effects and side effects.
Altogether, these interactions span 248 individual medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with insufficient evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Herbal Terra Lavender may help with painful periods and has shown up in clinical studies for anxiety and sleep, though evidence is limited for several uses. The main caution is that it can amplify the effects of sedating medications—if you take anything for sleep, anxiety, or pain, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
It's generally well tolerated in the amounts studied, but medicinal use should be guided by your healthcare provider.

Lavender by Herbal Terra Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Herbal Terra Lavender has documented interactions through its lavender content.
The most serious concern is with CNS depressants (drugs that slow your central nervous system)—lavender may amplify both the therapeutic and unwanted effects of these medications, a Moderate-severity interaction.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Laboratory work suggests lavender has sedative properties, but clinical trials using oral lavender oil (160 mg for 10 weeks) or lavender powder (1 gram daily for 2 months) haven't reported problematic side effects in those studies. That said, we can't rule out the possibility of this effect happening in real-world use, especially at higher doses or in people taking multiple depressant drugs.
Because this product can interact with a substantial number of medications across multiple drug categories, use the interaction checker below to search your exact medications before starting. If you take anything for sleep, anxiety, pain, or any CNS depressant, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this.

Cns Depressants
Theoretically, lavender might potentiate the therapeutic effects and adverse effects of CNS depressants.
Laboratory research suggests that lavender has sedative effects. However, clinical studies in patients taking oral lavender oil (Silexan) 160 mg for 10 weeks or taking lavender flower powder 1 gram daily for 2 months have not reported side effects of drowsiness, sedation, or sleepiness. There is still some concern that higher doses or different preparations of lavender might have additive effects with CNS depressant medications.
