Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Male sexual function and testosterone support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Age-related testosterone deficiency, Erectile dysfunction (ED), Male Infertility, Sexual desire, Muscle strength, Athletic performance.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Eurycoma Longifolia is rated "Possibly Effective" for Sexual desire (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Eurycoma Longifolia is rated "Possibly Ineffective" for Athletic performance.
  • Also on file: Eurycoma Longifolia is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Erectile dysfunction (ED), Muscle strength, Age-related testosterone deficiency, Male Infertility.

The evidence for Eurycoma longifolia is mixed and limited. It's rated possibly effective for increasing sexual desire, but possibly ineffective for athletic performance.

For back pain, osteoporosis, and diabetes, there isn't enough reliable evidence in our data to rate whether it works. If you're considering this supplement for one of those uses, talk with your doctor about whether the current evidence supports it for your situation.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Eurycoma longifolia is generally well tolerated in short-term studies, but long-term safety and the quality of products on the market remain uncertain. One concern is that it may raise testosterone levels, and if your testosterone goes too high, you could experience testosterone-related side effects like acne, insulin resistance, or liver damage.

Because of possible hormonal effects and limited safety data, this supplement is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or nursing and interested in this product.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Eurycoma Longifolia.

Before taking LJ-100, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take propranolol (Inderal) or any other beta-blocker — Eurycoma longifolia can weaken its effects. Also flag any testosterone products you're on, and any medications broken down by your liver's CYP1A2, CYP2C19, or CYP2A6 enzymes, since levels of those drugs might rise.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

LJ-100 might appeal to someone interested in sexual desire support, but the evidence for other uses is weak or unknown. The main caution is its interaction with propranolol and its potential to raise testosterone — if you take heart medications, hormones, or drugs processed by certain liver enzymes, you'll need to check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this.

Long-term safety isn't well established, so it's worth discussing your individual situation with your healthcare provider.

Propranolol (Inderal)

Eurycoma longifolia can reduce the levels and clinical effects of propranolol.
A small clinical study in healthy persons shows that taking a single dose of a water-based Eurycoma longifolia extract 200 mg, in combination with a single dose of propranolol 80 mg, reduces the propranolol area under the curve (AUC) by 29%, reduces the peak concentration by 42%, and increases time to peak concentration by 86% when compared with control. Since the elimination half-life of propranolol did not change, it seems that Eurycoma longifolia alters the kinetics of propranolol by decreasing its absorption in the gut, and not by altering its metabolism. It is not known if separating administration will prevent this interaction.

Likelihood Probable Evidence A
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP1A2 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 2A6 (Cyp2A6) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels of CYP2A6 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP2A6 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 2C19 (Cyp2C19) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP2C19 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Testosterone

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia may further increase levels of testosterone.
A clinical study in aging males with testosterone levels below 300 ng/dL shows that taking a specific water extract of Eurycoma longifolia roots (Physta; Biotropics Malaysia) 100-200 mg daily with breakfast for 12 weeks increases total testosterone levels by 8% to 11% when compared with placebo. It is unclear whether this increase would occur in individuals with normal testosterone levels.

LJ-100 200 mg by SuperSmart: Common Questions

Does LJ-100 200 mg by SuperSmart interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, LJ-100 200 mg has a known interaction with 248 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
LJ-100 200 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What is LJ-100 and what is it supposed to do?
LJ-100 is Eurycoma longifolia, a plant extract that's been studied mainly for sexual desire — the data suggests it's possibly effective for that. It's also been looked at for athletic performance, back pain, osteoporosis, and diabetes, but the evidence for those uses is either weak or not established yet.
Can I take this if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
No — there isn't enough safety data to know this is okay during pregnancy, and possible hormonal effects make it a caution. There's also not enough reliable safety information for breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about your specific situation.
What are the side effects I should watch for?
The main concern is that Eurycoma longifolia may raise testosterone levels, which could trigger acne, insulin resistance, liver damage, and other testosterone-related problems if levels go too high. Long-term safety hasn't been well studied, so that's another reason to discuss it with your healthcare provider first.
Does this interact with a lot of medications?
Yes — across all the ingredients, interactions are documented with 248 individual medications, mostly through how Eurycoma longifolia is processed by your liver and its effect on testosterone. The most serious documented interaction is with propranolol, a heart and blood pressure medication.
Is this supplement safe to take long-term?
Long-term safety and the quality of products on the market aren't well established. Studies have shown it's generally tolerated short-term, but if you're thinking about taking it regularly, check with your doctor or pharmacist about what's known and what isn't.
