Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: Longjack Tongkat Ali, a 100:1 extract of the Eurycoma longifolia root — meaning the extract is concentrated to be 100 times stronger than the raw plant material. Maltodextrin is included as an inactive ingredient to carry the extract in powder form.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: male sexual function and testosterone support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Age-related testosterone deficiency, Athletic performance, Erectile dysfunction (ED), Male Infertility, Muscle strength, Sexual desire — and 3 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Eurycoma Longifolia is rated "Possibly Effective" for Sexual desire (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Eurycoma Longifolia is rated "Possibly Ineffective" for Athletic performance.
  • Also on file: Eurycoma Longifolia is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Erectile dysfunction (ED), Muscle strength, Age-related testosterone deficiency, Male Infertility.

The evidence we hold shows Longjack Tongkat Ali is possibly effective for sexual desire. For athletic performance, the data suggests it's possibly ineffective.

For back pain, osteoporosis, and diabetes, there isn't enough reliable evidence yet to say one way or the other.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Short-term use in studies appears to be generally well tolerated, but long-term safety and the quality of products on the market aren't well established. Because this extract may raise testosterone levels, the safety data advises against use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

If elevated testosterone does develop, there's a risk of testosterone-related side effects including acne, insulin resistance, and liver stress.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Eurycoma Longifolia.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • For scale: 248 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this if you use propranolol (Inderal) or any other beta-blocker — this extract can reduce how well it works. You'll also want to confirm any prescription medications processed by your liver (your pharmacist can tell you if yours are), since this extract may theoretically raise their levels.

If you take testosterone therapy, mention this supplement too.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Longjack Tongkat Ali may help with sexual desire, but it's not proven for athletic performance or pain. If you take propranolol or other heart medications, or if you're on any prescription drug, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — this extract can interfere with how your body processes many medications.

Avoid it if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.

Propranolol (Inderal)

Eurycoma longifolia can reduce the levels and clinical effects of propranolol.
A small clinical study in healthy persons shows that taking a single dose of a water-based Eurycoma longifolia extract 200 mg, in combination with a single dose of propranolol 80 mg, reduces the propranolol area under the curve (AUC) by 29%, reduces the peak concentration by 42%, and increases time to peak concentration by 86% when compared with control. Since the elimination half-life of propranolol did not change, it seems that Eurycoma longifolia alters the kinetics of propranolol by decreasing its absorption in the gut, and not by altering its metabolism. It is not known if separating administration will prevent this interaction.

Likelihood Probable Evidence A
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP1A2 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 2A6 (Cyp2A6) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels of CYP2A6 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP2A6 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 2C19 (Cyp2C19) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP2C19 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Testosterone

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia may further increase levels of testosterone.
A clinical study in aging males with testosterone levels below 300 ng/dL shows that taking a specific water extract of Eurycoma longifolia roots (Physta; Biotropics Malaysia) 100-200 mg daily with breakfast for 12 weeks increases total testosterone levels by 8% to 11% when compared with placebo. It is unclear whether this increase would occur in individuals with normal testosterone levels.

Longjack 100:1 Tongkat Ali extract by Hard Rhino: Common Questions

Does Longjack 100:1 Tongkat Ali extract by Hard Rhino interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Longjack 100:1 Tongkat Ali extract has a known interaction with 248 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Longjack 100:1 Tongkat Ali extract contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Does Longjack Tongkat Ali actually work for sexual desire?
The evidence we hold rates it as possibly effective for sexual desire, meaning there's some support but it's not definitive. Talk with your doctor about whether it makes sense for your situation.
Can I take this while I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
No — the safety data advises against it during both pregnancy and breastfeeding. Not enough is known about how it affects the baby or nursing infant, and its potential to raise hormone levels adds to the concern.
What are the side effects?
Short-term studies show it's generally well tolerated. However, if it raises your testosterone levels too high, you could develop acne, insulin resistance, liver stress, or other testosterone-related effects. Long-term safety isn't well established.
Can it really affect how many medications work?
Yes — this extract can interfere with how your liver processes drugs, and many common medications (248 individual ones across several categories) are handled that way. That's why checking your specific medications is so important.
What's inside — is there anything else I should know?
The product is Longjack Tongkat Ali extract plus maltodextrin, a powder carrier. It's a single-ingredient active supplement.
Is this safe to take long-term?
The research we have covers short-term use. Long-term safety and the consistency of product quality across brands aren't well established, so this isn't something to assume is safe indefinitely without talking to your doctor.
